...yes, TransDEM is a way...
TransDEM is a utility to create ground maps from a contour map, generated by new technology.
TransDEM, Trainz-edition is a offshoot of the original program.
The utility is payware at about less than $35.oo US.
The available routes from the web are endless.
You can create a route in about 30 minutes & start detailing immediately.
You can use topo maps, or Google maps at will & add content as you wish.
There is another way that is freeware, however the process takes a lot of study...
Once you get the map made, with the track you wish to use, you can get a more interesting route to operate on.
