CP C&M Subdivision

Sounds good! Muskego is only 17 tracks... :p

Is the UP between Shermer and Bryn Mawr going to be covered so proper traffic routing into Bensenville is possible?

Actually I was planning on doing the route as just the CP trackage i.e. just the C&M sub. That said, I could use my existing DEM and Tiger files to make a new route, then outsource that work to someone else i.e. put it up on the DLS. If we were going to do that I think we'd want to include the trackage out to Bensenville or Wood Dale, the UP New Line up to Techny, and the CN line that goes past the east side of O'Hare.

As for Muskego, if it's only 17 tracks I guess I could include it if I find the time. With final exams coming up my goal is to get the track fully laid before winter break so I can at least be done with that aspect of the line. Texturing and building placement is less boring when I can drive the route as a break.

Weekly update #8

This weekend I was able to get in a decent amount of work texturing the south end of the route and placing yet more track. Thanks to final exams, however, I'm delaying screenshots until Friday since I have to log into Windows in order to get those screenshots (which means I can't get work done during that time).

I did, however, want to point out here that getting all the track laid is itself an accomplishment given my approach to this route. With a few exceptions (no more than 2 miles total out of a 86-mile subdivision), all of the track follows actual real life grades with no more than .01% deviation. Signals have the right aspects (though in a few cases the limits of online content necessitated putting a few on the wrong side of the track).

I had one more thing to say about my progress, but I have a final exam to kick a## on right now, excuse me.

Weekly update #8.1

Done kicking ass on the final exam. They give us 2 and a half hours and I was done in about 1 and a third.

Anyways, I'm still working on laying track, my goal is to finish today (that, of course, excludes Chicago Union Station, the Western Avenue Coach Yards, and Muskego Yard).

Once I'm done laying track, I'll be doing texturing and building placement.

Looking Great ZZ, I always found it cool how Trainz brings all ages together from around the world on here. I find it intresting how many young people on here such as college students.... I am 22 my self, i work full time then go home and work on stuff in trainz this time of the year.

keep up the good work..... Andrew..

New screenshots will be up tomorrow. List of "completed" areas (areas with most buildings and textures, only needing some finishing touches):

IL/WI border-Sturtevant (already have screenshots, so no need for more).
.5 miles around Grayland Metra station
.5 miles around A5
1.5 miles south from Mayfair

Sorry for the vagueness; currently using iPhone to send this.

Respectively those are the areas around the Mayfair and Grayland Metra stations. There's still about a roughly 1500 foot gap between those two areas. That's today's work.

Below is the area around A5. There's another gap between here and the Grayland Metra station. All these f***ing streets get annoying. But I'll be done with them soon enough.

Update

In lieu of a normal update, I just offer screenshots. In case any of you are wondering why I'm working on these areas, I got sick of doing all those downtown streets. 3 hours of work for less than .5 miles to show for it isn't fun. Enjoy!

Dundee road. I'm very familiar with this area since I use Dundee Road a lot.

Lake Cook Road (still very much in progress here). I'm also pretty familiar with Lake Cook Road. I'm still looking for some better buildings on the DLS.

Lake Forest.

I've been working on a lot of the forested and/or light suburban areas in the past week, and I'm going to be working on Deerfield/Lake Cook road for the next few days.

Well if it isn't my neck of the woods...

Well, imagine my pleasant surprise when I decide to dust off Trainz, visit the forum, and find some promising looking pictures of a line I'm very familiar with.

Hopefully I can get a graphics card by the time this is finished... Kind of strange to get a PC without one...

Anywho, good luck.
Can't wait to see how the junction at Rondout, IL turns out :udrool:

Update

I head back to school in about a week, which will mean slow progress ahead :(. I have two really quick questions:

1. Does anyone know some good suburban splines and/or buildings? I've been really frustrated with some of the houses and shops...Way to European for someplace like Glenview, and others are off-scale. I'm looking for splines and/or buildings that work well for areas like Glenview and Deerfield, which are low to medium density mixed commercial and residential.

2. Why aren't there any cars on my roads? :'(

If you do decide to go out a bit west to Wood Dale and beyond, I have mastered the area from Route 83 in Bensenville to...hm...probably Catalpa Street in Itasca. Not that great, but I don't get out around here lots. I had my own route going, covering that entire Metra sub, but my compooper crashed and it all went bye-bye. Oh well. Things happen.

Lookin' forward to more shots :)

Steve
