Cornfield meets

Unless I'm prepared to watch the screen continually I am not going to catch the culprit, consist, signal, switch or trigger etc that is causing a cornfield meet.
Unlike flightsim I cannot rewind or fast-forward.
Anyone have a system they use to debug this?

"Cornfield meet"

What a weird, quaint, expression.

I'd never heard of it before, so had to look it up.

It apparently means a head on train collision.

Sadly, I don't know the answer to the OP, but I at least now understand the question.:D

Hi Rog,

You didn't know that the drivers do stupid things when the foreman isn't watching them? :)

You need to fiddle with your signaling, track marks, and direction markers to keep the AI in tow where they should be. The thing is you can test them a gazillion times but as soon as you look the other way they go kick off somewhere instead of staying on the job.

Reminds me of when I worked as an agricultural engineer, that loose bale would appear just as you got back in your van.
Quite enjoy keeping the AI in order, before I just let them visit industries, now they have to be loaded, unloaded and kept to a strict route. Not simple.

It's the same deal as a typesetter. Those pesky missing periods would always show up after the type was output and the plates were made.

I enjoy that too, actually. :) The AI can keep us busy for quite some time as we figure out how to get them to do what we want them to do. It's a good exercise for the old noggin while we work the puzzles.

I would be more in favour of davesnow's method except I would use either usa 02 or usa L02 at the entry to the passing loop. also presuming the red triangles are actually direction markers there is no need for a direction marker on the line the train CAN use, you only need one on the line it CAN'T use.

It's not a very good system, but so far it's worked eventually. I watch one of the trains, use the shift key to speed things up and pause every couple of minutes (Trainz time) to save the session. When the problem occurs, I go back to the last saved session before the occurrence and re-run it in real time. If I don’t see the problem, I re-run again with the camera on the other train. If I still don’t see a problem, I go back to the next-to-last session, etc. As others have suggested it’s a lot easier to change the route if that’s an option.

Found the problem, I needed an 05 signal after the junction to let the consist clear the single line. Elementory mistake, smack on the wrist.

At least you found it. I've watched junctions and areas for hours on end with multiple trains passing by like clockwork. As soon as I get up for some tea... one of the drivers kicks off and I have to sit and watch all over again!

I've started using WaitForJunctionPermit (and it's mirror image ReleaseJunctionPermit) for those cases where there absolutely has to be an intermediate signal(s) between double track sections (such as a level crossing with another line). So far it's worked perfectly in at least about 7 locations on the layout I'm currently working on. A search for either asset name on the forums should bring up some instructions as to how to do this. It's especially useful for complex trackage where you need to keep all but one train out of the plant until it has cleared, then admit the next one.
