copying to cd discs

I was intrigued to read while browsing thru forum posts the other day
that it is possible to backup your routes and content to cd's etc.
I wish I had known about this a few weeks ago as I lost a route that had taken many weeks to put togetherso just how is this done help and advice appreciated
