Copying sessions

New to this forum so bear with me. I've done some searching but could not see my particular problem.

When saving a route using the "Save as.." option I inadvertently didn't save a session associated with the route. I then did a a reasonable amount of work on the new copy of the route before discovering one of my sessions was missing. The session itself is still available in the previous copy of the route.

So, my question is, can I import a session from one route to another? Obviously if the routes are different then that wouldn't make sense but if the routes are fundamentally the same then I cannot see why it wouldn't work. However I cannot find any useful information in any of the Trainz doco.

I solved my problem by merging the two versions of the route and copying the edited section of the new copy to the old, and then deleting the duplicate route. This took a long time and at times I wondered if it would have been easier to re-create the session by hand.

I've been working on this route on and off for a while. It probably started in TS2004, then TS2006 and currently TS2009. Its also migrated across a number of PCs and Windows versions. Currently its running under Windows 7 (64 bit).

Open CMP/CM2 and find the session and the newer version of the route. Note the kuid identifying the route. Now right-click the session and choose 'Edit > Edit in Explorer'. Open the config file. Find the line in the config which starts 'Map-Kuid'. Edit the kuid number to that of the new map. Save and commit.

Depending on exactly what changes you have made to the map the session may or may not still work. Probably it will, but not always....

Thanks - that worked.

After posting the request and waiting for a response I worked out the KUID linkage to the route and tried something similar to your suggestion but didn't realise it had to be committed. After mucking about for a day or so I now have several copies of routes and sessions with different names.

Cheers
