Copy Paste KUIDs

Hi I have searched the forum, sorry if I missed any duplicates, I couldn't find one. I must be missing something / doing something stupid.

Are KUIDs selectable/copyable in the Content Manager? They're not for me.

I'm a newb, I saw "The Surfliner Route (Amtrak)" listed in the Content Manager and downloaded it. It has missing dependencies, so I double click on the asset and a new window opens up showing the missing assets.

There is a selectable list of KUIDs in the right hand window's "KUID bar" but those aren't the KUID I'm selecting in the list below.

The question is, no where in these windows am I able to copy the KUID I want so I can go paste it into Google and search for it.

What am I missing? It seems this must be possible but I can't figure it out.

Thanks.

Don't worry about not being able to search the forums for information. For some reason as long as we can remember that has never worked even with the recent forum upgrade.

To select kuids in Content Manager.

Highlight the assets
Press CTRL+C
Paste where you want.

If the assets are missing, you'll get just the kuid.
If the assets are installed, you'll get the name as well.

wait a minute, not sure I want to go here. I'm a Cybersecurity guy, the .ru domain makes me wonder.

Don't go there. The site contains illegally uploaded content.

Also being a cybersecurity guy, you'll find this interesting.

When they first appeared, I signed up. They asked for me to create an account and of course it's my email address.
I found what I needed then a few days later I started getting SPAM emails asking me to pay a gazillion in bitcoins because someone saw me watching naughty stuff on the web using a camera I don't have.

Suspecting this may be the source, I logged into the site again through a Linux VM because I didn't want anything downloaded on my machine. I still got the SPAM anyway a couple of days later, which means the spammers harvest their logins and it's not caused by a dropper on my PC.

I worked in the tech world from 1980 until I retired on disability in September 2012. I spent a decade as a hardware technician repairing circuit boards and the remaining 22-years in MIS and IT.

@livingstream 👋

Highlight the assets in CM you want to copy kuids from.
You can use SHIFT - ctrl C for continuous, adjacent selection, and single clik, plus ctrl for non adjacent copying, just like in a word processor.

If you paste into a forum post, or a text doc, you will get this format:
<kuid2:68787:100357:1> HP-Arbeiter03
<kuid2:68787:100173:2> HP-Arbeiter01
<kuid2:68787:100356:1> HP-Arbeiter02
<kuid2:68787:100358:1> HP-Arbeiter04
<kuid2:68787:100359:1> HP-Arbeiter05
<kuid2:68787:100360:1> HP-Arbeiter06
<kuid2:68787:100361:1> HP-Arbeiter07

To remove the asset names, use the replace function in a text editor (Notepad, Notepad ++)
Same for the < and > symbols.

To set them up for a kuid search in CM: add commas, and one space after each kuid, like this:
kuid2:68787:100357:1, kuid2:68787:100173:2, kuid2:68787:100356:1, kuid2:68787:100358:1,kuid2:68787:100359:1, kuid2:68787:100360:1, kuid2:68787:100361:1,

This format is used on many different Trainz forums when asking for kuid search help. Allows forum users to easily copy/paste your kuids into their CM.

NOTE: My thoughts on Trainzland. I use it mostly for old assets, or hard to find EU based assets (Polish, Czech, Bulgarian etc.) and RU assets especially, since many of the old good RU sites are gone now.
I don't have any issues with the site security wise, although I did have the email issues that @JCitron had. Those I just relegated to junk mail, and they eventually stopped coming.

There a re a few different URLs for the site out there. I use https://trainzland.ru/ which is the original.

I also use ESET Internet Security on my PC, covers the virus and malware bases very well. ☺️

You guys aren't reading, sorry. I'd have to be really a luddite not to know how to use a mouse to select text. I tried that.

The text fields are not selectable. I can't highlight them in the first place.

My original question: "Are KUIDs selectable/copyable in the Content Manager? They're not for me."

Looking at your screenshot, might it be something I have run into? Your selection is gray, which indicates it is not an ACTIVE selection. In that case the copy doesn't work. If you click on that unknown asset again it should change to the blue highlight, and copy will work.

I really wish we could edit posts LOL, sorry for another one.

If a picture is worth 1000 words how much is a video worth?

That's normal functionality @livingsteam.
The pop-up windows have always been like that, at least in TANE and TRS2019, and in 22 it seems, from what you're showing us.

In CM highlight all the assets you want. Go to edit at the top left and select copy. Use edit and paste to paste text in a new location.

OK thanks everyone, it would not have occurred to me to select the full description from the content manager window.
I can't think of a lot of interfaces where selecting a line in such a display actually copies the text on that line. Aside from Excel, I suppose.
