Content Manager - Tips and Tricks (any version)

Well, after a number of hours of experimenting and trying other people's solutions, I finally managed to solve:

Error: Download failed - error 7.
Error: Test 'ftp dls' failed.
Error: Download failed - error 7.
Error: Test 'ftp firstclass' failed.

This was preventing me from downloading anything. Still don't know why. I tried using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) and viola! CM is now working as intended. Wonder why the VPN was necessary for me?

Nevertheless, for anyone else experiencing FTP dls issues with content manager, this is worth trying out.

VPN is using a different DNS server?

Hi Trainers,
My Content Manger version is 3.7, I have a problem with downloads, each time I download anything from DLS it is sure to have missing dependencies. is there any way to get around this problem?
when you go to look for the missing kuid's they are not found. this is driving me up the rails.

Hi cascaderailroad,
I have Google and used the search feature in content manger. and still can not get any closer to the fix of these problems.
Thank you for your help, very much appreciated.

Or try at TrainzPro http://www.trainzproroutes.org/tprdownloads/index.php

The problem is that people download individual assets from many places but many of those assets are not on the DLS. Then they make a route or some other asset that use those assets and upload to the DLS. AFAIK the DLS does not check to see if all the dependencies are on the DLS.

The onus should be on the asset creator to ensure that if they upload to the DLS then all dependencies should also be on the DLS. I've been guilty of that.

Ok guys, I have finally work out the problem. here is what I have found out. anything that has to go via the DLS will have problems. because of the content that have been downloaded from different sources and the content manger.
and yes I have spat with frustration because of this so called fix of problem. when there is not one.
I wish to thank you all for your time on this matter. I will not use anything that has to go through the DLS. going to be a boring route.

Hello all. Recently I've been having an issue with the assets and updating (from within game). Occasionally it just freezes, no crash, just freeze. All good, I end the trainz process and usually TADeamon acts right, finishes up and closes the asset database, allowing me to restart the program near instantly again; however, it does also occasionally not end right and I have to forcefully end its process as well. (I know that causes it to do a database repair...) Most of the time good, but occasionally locally changed assets that have already been committed and ran in game and sealed in the db un-modify themselves or have missing files within the asset altogether causing me to have to take the time to re-modify or re-download/re-import the asset all over again. This seems to be happening more commonly after this SP1 update.. very annoying. Any tips... besides to not end the process?

I've had a similar problem when downloading large amounts of assets from the DLS. Its almost as if the internal processes are running out of memory, exceeding some value or entering an internal loop with no way out. This has happened to me a few times since the last hot fix but I would have difficulty identifying exactly what caused it. Task Manager didn't shed any light.

If it is a particular asset you are updating that causes a problem then I would raise a trouble report identifying the asset, even if it is yours, then N3V would have something to work with.

Hello trainzers,
does anybody know how to deal with the field Date Installed whe searching with content manager? I have tried all kinds of diferent formats to set An specific date ,but without results ... Thank you!

For Shane,

Every now and then Content Manager (3.6) loses my saved searches and I end up with the default set. I'm guessing this has happened about 5 or 6 times since installation (when TS12 was released). I don't prowl all the forum threads but don't recall anyone else reporting it. A Google search didn't help or maybe I wasn't using the right search pattern.

Two questions:

Do you know what causes it, and
Are the saved searches stored in a particular file so I can back it up!

I added a new search and looked in the most likely places in my TS12 installation and didn't see anything obvious.

TIA

This problem just happened again except it's now CM 3.7. I was testing an asset and returned to CM and all my filters are gone. Swearing at it made no difference!

I'd log a job with the Help Desk but it will not let me log in since it doesn't who I am, even though I am already logged on. If that doesn't make sense then it doesn't to me either. :o

So I prowled around Shane's site and didn't find anything to help.

Any further ideas on this since the last time?

Hello,

I have TRS2006. Excuse me if this has already been asked, and also if this is not the place to put it, but recently I tried to download this: (http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_packcontents.php?AssetPackID=610). It directed me to the content manager (which I do not understand one bit) and that said something like 'Updating database...please wait' (it may have said something slightly different from that). Then it crashed, I had to shut down my computer and now when I start Trainz it says '"Your content has not been commited properly. Would you still like to launch" or something like that. Is this an issue? How can I fix it?

I now know looking at URL that that download is probably for TRS2004...

I don't know much about this as I am new here... :S

That message means that you have open for edit content. You need to commit said content by using the Open for Edit tab in Content Manager, then using Ctrl and A on the keyboard to select all assets, then using Ctrl and M on the keyboard to commit the assets. To access the Content Manager from the Launcher use the Manage Content button.

Shane

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

Me Again!

When I go onto content manager, I search for something to download like "Class 105" and it comes up with "BR Class 105 DMB" in the results box. When I then drag this into the download helper, as it says to do it the content manager help, I click start and it comes up with at the bottom, "Unable to download BR Class 105 DMB. Couldn't obtain a download URL. Item can not be found on the download station.". Why is this?

There are two possibilities here.

Firstly, as you've only got TRS2006 registered, make sure you have an active First Class Ticket. This is because any version older than TS2009 is unsupported.

Secondly, most assets have been upgraded to at least Trainz Classics standard, so you may need to use the Black Pages version (click the Download Station link above to get this) and using the Download Page > Download via FTP option.

Shane

I haven't got a first class ticket so thats what it is...

Two questions.

If I bought a 3 months ticket, If I download the trains I wanted, would it then keep them after the three months or would they become obselete?

As you say "any version older than TS2009 is unsupported", would that mean if I bought TS2009 then I would not need a FCT to download anything?
