Content Manager - Tips and Tricks (any version)

The first one is normal, but the second one is not. That may be a case of TADDaemon either using wrong details, or just plain acting up.

Looks like you've got a serious case of errors there. Is that still the case with the firewall turned off?

Shane

P.S. I've got to go offline now, but will be back on tomorrow morning.

TADDeamon starts off with 4 failures:

"unable to load m.tbumpcoltex'
and ...m.'tbumpglosscol'
and ....m.'tgroundonetex'
and ....m.'tgroundonetexvs'

I've no idea what these mean!

I've changed my password on Planet Auran, and disabled windows firewall, and eventually it's letting me download-but only the 100mb limit, no recognition of lifetime ticket as yet.

Actually nothing important as we all get it in all versions. I'm guessing its due to code left in from an old version that loaded some kind of graphics on starting up.

The 100mb limit? have you cleared you download list out after activating, anything there before will have been queued on the pre FCT speed.

Well, tonight I've got into CM3.6 relatively easily, without disabling firewall etc! No limit, acknowledges my ticket etc and I'm downloading. WHY???? (Not why I've got on, but why do I so often struggle?)

Well since this thread is about content manager I have FCT but I go to download and goes good and then eventually when around like 8:00 it slows down and stops now I don't know if content manger shuts down at a certain time because even trainz chat won't let me do anything I never can't get past the first asset it takes forever and then stops and I am so frustrated I just want to download and get it done so if any of you guys can help I would sure appreciate it.

It may be due to other users downloading at the same time.

Shane
I don't download that often but when I do it works extremely well.

However I think the type of asset being downloaded can be a problem. These are the assets that have complex and convoluted dependencies, some of which have been mentioned in posts elsewhere. I wonder where the calculation of a "dependency tree" is done - i.e. on the user's computer or at the server.

A few weeks back I spent some time manually working out missing dependencies for a complex route. But I got them in the end. This is a bit odd because this is something that software should excel at. Maybe during building of the "tree" a memory problem is being encountered but not reported. i.e. the program justs "backs out" without reporting the error but not solving the dependency problem either.

Just a thought.

I've seen to have lost the sounds in my CM, specifically the whistle and clunking sound when a download starts and stops. I've toggled it on and off in the settings but it doesn't help. It's not a big deal, but it's good to have when I que up a lot of stuff and then go off and do something else. Short of reinstalling , any ideas?

Click Configure Sounds on the Miscellaneous tab in the Settings box, and check that the Content Manager sound events have a speaker next to them. If not, you may need to re-assign the sounds.

CM v3.7 problem

HI
Wonder if anyone can help me...
I upgraded to SP1 ok ... no problems at all.
Running windows 7 with TS2012.
Then as I was on Cm and deleting items I dont want I had a power cut.
On getting back on the asset I had been in the middle of deleting is still there. However if I click on it at all the CM shuts down.
I can work happily on all other content, downloads or deleting and have no problems just cant click on this one Asset..
I have hunted through the hash folders for the kuid but it seems to have gone but still shows up in CM.
How can I remove this pain in the neck!!?

Don't know the specific answer but I would run a quick database repair and if that don't work then an extended database repair.

Power failures will corrupt databases if half way thru a commit.

Hello all

I haven't yet gone for service pack1, but by what I can read of it, a large percentage of the troubles relate to the lack of thumbnails for assets in content manager. Accordingly, I want to put a picture or whatever into the place holders for these. However, I'm not sure how to do this although I think it has been mentioned somewhere else in the forum.

I'd very much appreciate it if someone could give me a bit of guidance, as to how it is achieved.

Re thumbnails:

You need an image file - preferably jpg of 240 by 180 pixels. Then add the following to your config.txt.

thumbnails {
0 {
image "$screenshot$.jpg"
width 240
height 180
}
}

the image file name in this example is $screenshot$.jpg which is a common name used for these files but it can be any file name. The image should relate to the asset in a meaningful way.

Thank you very much for your rapid answer to my post.
It looks simple enough. However, as I have quite a few assets to be done, it may consume a considerable amount of my time, so will do them bit by bit.

Thanks again, and much appreciated.

AssetX can help and I believe TARDIS can automate it. TARDIS is an AssetX script. I use AssetX every day but have never used TARDIS.

Right now I'm going through my routes adding screenshots. There is a facility in Surveyor to capture a screenshot for use in thumbnails in config.txt but you need a thumbnail to open the route. So I'm just pasting a random but technically correct file in the asset and then using Surveyor to produce a better thumbnail. Its slow and painful.
