Construction: Items that change or disappear from the road???

For some time now, I've been building my model railway. I make sure to save my work often. At first, I created a section of my track, and now I'm building the scenery around it.

Today, I got a nasty surprise!

What happened to my already built layout?

After several days of building and repeated saves, I went back to check my tracks, and BAM! I was stunned. Some things I had placed were missing (completely gone), and others had been completely replaced with other assets!

Look at my screenshots to see the difference!

Image 1 - This was save file 101 (Correct)
Image 2 - This was save file 123.

In this last one, my speed signs were transformed into another asset that I don't use. My turnout heaters and signals have disappeared.

What could have happened and how can we get everything back?

NOTE: There have been many changes between 101 and 123.

I hope I don't lose any work time.

Thanks, Martin

Those red and black squares must mean something is still there, I hope someone responds that can tell us what.

Quick and simple first, did you shut down Trainz incorrectly at all in the intervening times? I have had issues occasionally with "revert" or "use changes" when there have been issues shutting down Trainz correctly, both have sometimes given me problems. The latest was a power blip (thanks CMP, learn to keep the power on) and I went to the "use changes" getting a broken file and ended up having to revert to a much earlier file, loosing much of my work. Short version is that NONE of the junction levers showed up and I couldn't put new ones down as the program had them in place but didn't render the junction lever/arrows.

My first thought -- which may not be useful -- is to check what layers the assets may be in. I'm frequently editing in the session layer when I meant to be in the route layer. I have not used those assets you have between the rails, so you know more about those than I do.

Thank you for your help.
The only solution for now has been to copy the baseboards from my additions on save 123 to the correct one, save 110. I hardly lost any of my changes, which I'll put back in order.

I'll continue from there.
However, I'll do a full preview of my baseboard after a few saves to make sure everything is in place!

Thanks to all you awesome Trainz fans!

How do you prevent corrupted routes due to Trainz no longer responding (hangs) or Windows Explorer hangs forcing a computer restart? Sometimes Trainz will run a DBR when it is loaded again but the route that was open when Trainz or Windows stopped responding makes you revert or go to the last version.
