Constant crashes...

Dermmy

Too many projects...
I am having problems with creating a session for my new Clovis 2 route. The session generally crashes approximately one hour in, but will absolutely crash if an attempt is made to save the session. The crash is related to KernelStandard_7c.dll

The route is big - over 100 miles and the trains are long but there are only eight trains on the route when it crashes. If the game crashes while running the crash is preceded by a few seconds of texture problems, either the ground texture goes transparent or one or more locos go white. Up to that point things are running smooth as silk, no stuttering. I had assumed not enough RAM so I put another 2Gig in the machine today for a total of 4Gig on an XP machine but no improvement.

Anybody hazard a guess as to what the problem might be? I'm guessing the vid card is a bottleneck, but that doesn't explain the crash-while-saving thing...

TRS06 running on Intel E6300 dual core, 4Gig PC6400 DDR2 RAM, 7600GT 256Mb VidCard, XP.

System is on a 500Gig HD, about 95% empty. Trainz is on its own 180 Gig HD, 75% empty. Huge page file on both HDs....

Hi Dermmy,

That sounds to me as if you are having overheating problems. Does your vid card have it's own fan? If so I would suggest you remove the card and clean the fan blades and all the ducting, while you are doing this you could also remove the CPU fan and clean it and the heatsink, and the same with any case fans in the system. It is amazing how much dirt and dust these fans collect and a collection of dust cuts down the fan's cooling ability. Also don't forget your power supply, is it clean, is it powerfull enough, You might think there should be no problem when saving but don't forget the writing to disk puts an extra load on the already loaded system.

Hope this helps,

Not overheating Bill, it's spotless inside, runs 2 extra 4" fans and the temperature is minotored constantly with an audible alarm. I live in a hot part of the world (winter now though!) and I have cooked a graphics card in the past...

Andy :)

Could also be caused by a system overload. With very large routes a lot of things are stored in the computers memory even though you dont see all the route the computer does. Eight trains all doing their thing controlling points, signals and checking out the route ahead is still going on while you stay with one train. Ive found out this by running several part routes without problem, but as the routes merged still no problem until it got very large. Same trains no extra scenery etc just larger when joined together plus the extra stations and industry trains had a choice to use will have added more to the computers calculations.
Just my view on the matter.

The memory was checked before the extra 2gig was put in and CCCleaner was run recently.

I am inclined to think stagecoach has it - the damned route is just too big...

I experienced the same thing on what I suspect is Clovis sub v1.1

I do know there's content used in the basic session that has errors. Some rolling stock in the consists on the portal's lists don't even show at all, just a black rectangle and no name onmouseover. If you hover your mouse over a black rectangle in the list and it shows a locomotive name or boxcar name or whatever it is, it's usually working alright I've noticed. I do have a suspect, but I'm not sure yet. (Not gonna publicly point fingers before I'm entirely sure eh?) Currently busy eliminating all rolling stock showing faulty one at a time from consist lists in the portals, see if that helps any.

Ahwell, we'll see where it leads. :)

I'm inclined to think something has a faulty script in the game, an industry, or a piece of rolling stock being used at an industry, or being produced by a portal.

@ Tiger - I have not had this or any other problem with the session on C1, nor any reports, but combined with Ed's post you have me thinking....

@ Ed: Hmmmmmm - good thought.

There is only one industry track, a MIN, so that should be OK. There is only one car type loading and I am pretty sure that is OK. That leaves a bad piece of rolling stock. The Clovis1 session suffered from too many of the same car, so I spiced it up with a bit of variety in the C2 session by adding more stock, so let's assume its one of the new cars causing the problem. There aren't that many to check, and I think I know where to start.

Stay posted.....

Andy :)

It sure sounds as if it may be caused by scripted items, maybe track objects. had a similar problem in one of my routes. Route would crash at certain points in surveyor and driver. Turned out to caused by road and xing objects that all used the same script. Crashes occurred about one baseboard length from these items. Only way to fix was to remove in TRS2004 were they worked perfectly. These items showed as error free. Did not have texture problem though route fairly large also.

I'm thinking the various auto-numbering scripts may be possible culprits. Soon as I have locos and other rolling stock running that don't use auto-numbering scripts it seems to be running smooth for me.

Edit: I didn't have chance to run for a full hour yet, so I may have to leave it run overnight tonight, see if it's still running when I wake up tomorrow lol
Also, what falcon500 says might have to be looked at, too. I'm more of an overpass/underpass person anyway: no cars in my way! lol

Andy :([/quote]

Sounds like you are hitting the 2k memory barrier while running the route... (very large route with 8 large trains).
I've had the same problem with a couple of very large detailed routes that I added heaps too, including lots of trains. I solved the problem by reducing the amount of trains and some non essential scenery.
- Routes has never crashed since...
Try removing one of the trains and see if you still get/have the same problem. If you do, then delete another train - or reduce some of their lengths - or remove some of the scenery/content...
Keep deleting/reducing until you no longer have the crashing...
Good luck.
Cheers, Mac...

Everyone,
After when I restarted my computer, it did a complete scan and deleted and re-entered several items.
When I started Trainz, my map came up, however when I try to move in surveyor, a fatal error appears.

I sincerly hope somebody did not put a bug in any files that I have downloaded for Trainz recently, as I will NOT use them any longer.

Here are the sites I visited before this happened;
*Subpar Productions
*PassTrainz

If you have had any problems with the above, please let me know so I can delete the items!

If you know of anyway to fix this issue that has made my Trainz un-useable, please post here or Private Message me as soon as possible!
Thank you,
Woody

TRS2006 User.
There you go Andy.
Do you get this too?

aardvark,
I have been very patient with your seemingly constant rude remarks, but I've had it.
You are not going to make me look like a fool to everybody.
I was not suggesting that I would know how to fix this, nor did I claim that i knew everything about computers, nor have I ever said that.
I am simply suggesting that we problem solve. I'm sure neither of us really know what to do...or else we would not have posted!

Back Off,
Woody

Hi Woody,

My apology to you.

Consider me.... backed off.

Have fun,

Check the jetlog file after a crash, you might find a clue in there.

John

I had thought about that John but the problem with Jetlog is it slows the program so much that I normally run -nolog. I am rebuilding the session one train at a time waiting for a crash, that should help isolate exactly where the issue is. Once it starts crashing again I will let jetlog run and see if it sheds any light...

Andy :)
