Connecticut Shoreline Project

OK, so I had been working on this layout for a while, then suddenly one day it crashed and every time I tried to save it it would freeze. Sucked because I had gotten a lot done on it (from the Rhode Island border all the way to New Haven CT) so I got frustrated and gave up on it. Well, today when I tried to use TS2009 the new patch downloaded and the layout worked again! So I'm going to continue working on it. Here are a couple screenshots from the project.

tell me about it! the ones i'm using in new london are kinda close to real but they change in new haven i believe. i still have a loong way to go on my route. i still have to go back and add trees everywhere and other details, and then continue the map westward. Right now I'm at the Rail yard in new haven where the scrap metal yard is.

Replaced the bridge in Old Saybrook (a little closer to realistic but not as many spans as the real one)

There is a catenary set on my Trainz 06, I don't know if its built in on 09.. Its something like "modern catenary bridge" or something.. anyways, it might be good for the Shore Line.

yeah i found it...i might go and replace what i did with them. the ones i'm using look like that on the 3 track version but not the 2 track but if i am not mistaken in new london the ones i have in place now are close to realistic or at least they seem to be on multimap.com.

anyone have any thoughts or ideas on how to improve this layout? i should have some pictures up soon of what i have done in new haven so far. i still need to go back and put trees everywhere and tweak the ground textures.

Well, we haven't seen much, so I can't really tell what needs improving. For starters though, maybe if you have a chance, the track. You are using the basic track right now, its always fun to see some more realistic and.. "jurrasic" track used.

yeah that might not be a bad idea. i'll have to look and see what i can find for track that matches the actual track. i'll get some more sceenshots up soon too.

Pending the time you are making the route you may want concrete ties....(the concrete ties have been in pl,ace for 30 years and are now being replaced again because of faulty clips) So any time during that 30 years should be concrete, prior to that should be wood.. I am only using the wood for modern day because it it the only track that banks like the track does.. So I had to sacrifice 1 proto thing for another...no big deal. Of course all of this is up to how prototypical you are making the route. Anyways good luck!

yeah i was actually thinking about that. actually i had recently applied for a job with amtrak because of all the ties they were replacing. what exactly do you mean about the wood being the only track that banks like it does?

The only track available for trainz that banks is with wooden ties.

The new "twisted" track that was just on the DLS is concrete, if memory serves me. It has a lot of superelevation, like maybe 8 to 12 inches, so it might not work everywhere...6 inches used to be the maximum...but then this is high speed rail and I don't know what the current standards are.

If one of you railfan types could get me some good close up pictures of the rail fasteners that I could use for textures (without getting arrested or hit by a train) I would try making some NEC track.

George,
I may be able to get you some pictures easily since the small railroad, in my town has recently replaced it's tracks with concrete(Not sure why since they only go 15mph) and they are using the same exact clips as the NEC uses. So I shall see what I can do. Of course my camera isn't exactly top notch so I am not sure if that is any importance?
