Before you go about replacing your hard drive. Try setting your BIOS to boot from the CD drive first, then the hard drive following. Because by inserting a CD in, sometimes the BIOS boots from the hard drive, and it ignores everything else.

It's a very simple setting change and won't take much time. I hate to say it, but you'll probably have to format the drive, unless like the guy suggests above me, it went bad.

i had a similar problem so i dicided to try and save my data i put the hdd in another computer as a slave drive coppied all the data i wanted on to dvds then wiped the drive clean and reinstalled xp

good luck

mm.i think a am gonna buy a new hardrive.wow my 320GB hard drive is now a slave.never tought this day would come ;(

me again did the method i posted work if not there is probably no way to get your data back:( the first time this happened i had an 80 gb drive it said it couldnt boot windows so i mounted it as a slave in my other computer coppied my data i wanted to my flash drives dvds and cds then brought a 160gb drive and coppied all of my data back on the new drive. i wiped the old drive and 3 days later it went dead.

good luck
