Coming soon to a Trainz near you...

But people are getting bored of the lack of updates. So we've decided to find new ways to entertain ourselves... If N3V or Auran or Rob or whoever would just give us a tiny little extra clue... Even half an image... Or a heavily blurred image... SOMETHING! :hehe:
of course we could always decide the right answer on our own and start posting advert shots for it.... whos up for a mass blind push for a random answer? All we need is a train and then we are off and running! :p

quick someone start us off :o

cheers

Guys,

Entertaining as this thread can be, I have just sent a PM to Rob, in the hopes that said action prompts a response from him in this thread, in order to clear up the issue at hand.

Enjoy it while it lasts!:p

WHAT IS THIS?

mysterylocologo.jpg

By the 1950's, passenger revenues on America's railroads had long since passed their heyday. Automobiles were fast becoming an affordable option for the modern traveller, and flight was also steadily gaining in popularity.

If railroad passenger services were to survive, operators realised they would need to change their thinking and find a more cost effective approach.

Manufacturers of railroad equipment were also taking note of the changing age and sought to provide solutions for their valuable customers. How would rail travel survive in the future and what shape would tomorrow's trains take?

Can you guess what the mystery train is?

Stay tuned!

Compare this with the ? What is this and i am trelling you it is that GS-4
4-8-4 daylight, warbaby, or freedom. look carefully people.

compare the ? image with this and I'll tell you IT IS THE SAME IMAGE! (admittedly it is cropped differently, but still the same)

I personally suspect that the image (and the steam locomotive it suggests) in Rob's post is a red herring

I must confess that indeed it is. ;) Dieselisation was already well underway in 1950's America, and as many of you have recognised, the silhouette is simply that of the Y6B which has often served as the face of Trainz in recent years.

I'm glad to see this has attracted so much attention! There are some well educated guesses and some great suggestions here too.

The secret will soon be out so keep an eye on the track!

If they havent caught on after all the times previously stated that its not a Y6b, what makes you think Rob's post is any different? :hehe: Chances are the steam guesses will continue, perhaps even on the actual release thread of the the set:o .

have fun:wave:

Are you saying it's not the Y6b then?:hehe: That was my guess, since it looks JUST LIKE THE MYSTERY PICTURE!:D

It's probably some British Steam engine then...:o

I'd go with that... =P

But in speculation to what Rob just said (We are all very happy that he replied), I think we now need to start guessing more diesel style engines (Pfft... Diesel.. Steam will always be better)

You know?, I never noticed!:D I think yah might be on to something with that one ed.;) Keep with it...

Its a winner

Sadly, I feel that the above statement will hold true; for the simple reason that people will read the OP, look at the picture then skip to the last page and say "I know what that is!', without bothering to read 200+ intervening posts. Probably because they figure that they are so clever, in all the time that this thread has been in existence, nobody but they have noticed the resemblance!!

Also, I'm sorry for trying to ruin the fun earlier, but the extremely cyclic nature of the posting was angering me to the point of wanting to put my fist through the monitor.

Cheers,

Matt.

It's a Y6b!

Right then Rob said `Dieselisation was already well underway in 1950's America`

So let's take it that it's not Steam, maybe Diesel, but has anyone thought of something electrical instead?

Not being an American train fan, was there any 1950's electric trains?

Just one more thought. In the 1950's there was all kinds of mad Nuclear engine ideas. As it's a supposed `Train of tomorrow`, what about a Nuclear power experimental train?

Regards.

Nothing really of note, Electrification in the key places in the US occurred quite a bit earlier, 1910s for the Milwaukee Road, iirc...

And 1930s for the portions of the east coast that would become the NEC.

The 1950s were relatively quiet in terms of new (electric) locomotives - the electric locomotives introduced in the late 30s for the east coast electrified projects (NYC, PRR, etc) all managed to stay competitive until the 1960s (or in the case of the GG1, until the 1980s from being built in the 1930s).

I don't think electric can be an answer here if it's 1950s America, it was the decade of diesel for sure.

Several were proposed, but afaik none ever even reached beyond very vague designs. I doubt N3V would build a fully fictional locomotive/train as a payware item. I could perhaps see them doing the nuclear train from the 1979 NBC TV series 'Supertrain' as a novelty, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to pay for it :)

The only other really striking 'Nuclear Train' in fiction would be the 1996 movie 'Atomic Train', but that was represented with a regular cab style locomotive (probably an F7). And probably thus not worth modelling - just take any F7 model in trainz already and replace it's engine sound with that of an electric :D

1950's, secrecy, Nuclear Power?
It smells like something from that non existing place we all don't know as ( Area 51) Shhh.

Wow - I never noticed that before, but you're right - it does! Scratch my Zooliner guess, I'm going with Ed on this one!
