Speedtree groups would be useful items in building or amending a route if only their individual contents were not so clunky. Personally I prefer the trees of Pofig and Mcguirel to the original Auran speedtrees. I have a feeling I'm not alone in this sentiment, reading through various speedtree-related posts in the forums.
I've been able to make speedtree groups visible for global replacement in Surveyor - but replacement of a group is possible only with a single item from ranges such as those of Pofig or Mcguirel trees. This can make the treescape look rather sparse. Is it possible, I wonder, to clone a speedtree group and replace the individual Auran speedtrees therein with much better Pofig or Mcguirel items?
If anyone can supply info about how to amend a cloned speedtree group config file to substitute different (DLS-hosted) speedtrees (or even the better non-speedtrees) I would be grateful. Would it need the speedtree library to be amended too?
I assume such cloning then substitition of Pofig or Mcguirel items, if possible at all, does not break any copyright rule - if such re-constituted speedtree groups are used only privately by me......? But would it be legitimate to upload such a cloned speedtree group if it contained trees already on the DLS from creators such as McGuirel, with a reference to their authorship?
