Is there a virtual model of the U.S. Carolina, Clinchfield & Ohio Railroad - commonly referred to as "The Clinchfield RR" - available for download via DLC?

Thanks. I am trying to download the Route, but not having complete success. Is there any way, other than the Content Download Station, to obtain the route?

G'day, when you say "not having complete success" what problems are you having and what build of TS12 are you running?

TS12 build is 58414. I am new to downloading content, so I am not yet familiar with what to expect. Apparently, the Clinchfield Route is a very large file (or group of files). The download queue indicates over 1 Gig. I have allowed the download to continue in the background (now has been running over 4 hours and has completed about 83 Meg). I do not have a 1st class ticket, so I understand that download speeds are slow, but at this rate it will take over 40 hours to complete, which seems ridiculously long to me in this day of high speed internet (I am downloading via my daughter's high speed connection with over 12 Meg download capability.

During the process I have occasionally seen a message stating that a certain KUID cannot be located, but the download continues anyway, so I am letting it run. I will be interested to see when and if it completes and whether or not I have any useful files as a result.

This effort is going to be a test case for me. If it fails after the enormous amount time I will have invested, I'll not proceed with further downloads, unless the file is very small and represents an asset that I cannot live without.

As a new user of TS12, I am impressed with the program in general and I am enjoying Surveyor as I replicate my garage HO gauge model RR in Trainz. However, I think that this agonizingly-slow download situation is a serious negative.

By the way, I live in Johnson City, TN - a city at the junction of the CSX and NS railroads and through which the Clinchfield main line ran (and still runs today as part of the CSX).

G'day, without a FCT your speeds will be slow as they are limited as is the daily download amount, a FCT is not very expensive and gives you unlimited downloads at very good speeds. IMHO well worth the few dollars.

I will inquire into a FCT. Meanwhile, I had no success in downloading the Clinchfield. I located the Clinchfield and right-clicked to select Download. Downloading began, but no Clinchfield route was downloaded. Instead, I received a large number of miscellaneous assets before the download ceased. I have no idea why these assets were downloaded or how they were selected.

Suggestions?

G'day, does your Content Manager (CM) show V3.7? as that is the version the current route is for, the other "miscellaneous assets" would be those required for the route.

When you download a route it has to obtain all the assets used as well, if you haven't got them already. The route asset itself isn't 1GB however all the items that it uses probably come to that sort of total. The "miscellaneous" assets are ones that are used by the route there are 1171 of them in total and are required for the route to work. The route itself will get downloaded when all it's dependencies have been found and downloaded.

If you look at the download helper, you will see the route has sub items branching off it that need downloading first.

> Clinchfield
itemxxx
itemyyy
itemzzz

and so on

Put another way, the route is just the terrain minus any assets textures buildings track etc, these are all referenced from the routes config and downloaded as individual items.

FCT? well it pays towards the cost of the DLS server rental.

Thanks for the details regarding the route. Without a FCT, my download stopped at about 106 Meg, which is defined as my daily limit. I presume that with a FCT, I would not have a daily limit imposed. I will look into the FCT further. Meanwhile, is there any way for me to determine whether or not the assets already downloaded actually apply to the Clinchfield Route?

Right-click on an asset listed in Content Manager. Choose dependent assets and it will show you if it is used by the Clinchfield route. The inverse of this is to right-click on the downloaded route and view dependencies. This will list anything that is needed for the route.

Now to obtain just these items, pick view in main list and you can then download these assets.

Thanks for the detailed search instructions. I have purchased a FCT and I have activated it. However, I have not yet been able to use it in Contents, so I am waiting for the system to recognize my FCT and permit me to continue to download the Clinchfield Route and all of the needed dependencies.

Question: If I just click on the route and select Download, will the route plus all needed dependencies automatically download, or do I have to identify and separately download all of the dependencies?

UPDATE: I have successfully used my FCT to download the Clinchfield Route and it's dependencies. Thanks to all for the help.

I saw your other post regarding the ticket... Follow the instructions there for that.

Regarding your route. Yes, you can click and select Download, or drag and drop the route into the download queue. Do this once you've straightened out your download queue from the slow server. This download session, after activating the FCT, should move fairly quickly.
