classics are o6

If you plan on downloading any of the 100's of routes that are on the DLS, your best bet is to use TRS2006 because most DLS routes use assets that are builtin to those versions and are not available in Classic. Just my opinion.

Coassics or TRS06...

I think I agree with Bob to an extent. If you're planning to use many of the DLS routes, 06 has it's advantages, but if you plan to build new routes the roads are more flexible in the new Classics version.
Also, 06 is last year's program. They've fixed a lot of the initial bugs with SP1 (install SP1 before you open TRS06 for the first time) but there probably won't be any more service packs, since they have TC now.
Either one is a lot of fun.

Thats not quite true
Admittedly there are some problems, but a lot of them are fixable
I had problems here were none of the content would work in TC from 06 but if you look in 06 and make a list of all the jar files
then go to TC and transfer all the o6 files not shown in TC to TC then most of the routes will work ( sometimes there are odd items missing ) but these can then be obtaind from the DLS, it works for me anyway
I have also found that the routes work better ( less stutter ) than in 06

give it a try, nothing to lose

TRS2004 will give you the most compatability to download the most routes and content from the DLS. Compared to TRS2004, there is not much on the DLS for TRS2006 or Trainz Classics.

Also, Trainz Pro Routes, one of the best builders of outstanding prototypical routes, only releases routes built for TRS2004.

Trainz Pro Routes just released the Proto Clinchfield Route for TRS2004 a few days ago.
