Cars that obey traffic lights?

Are there any car / road / intersection / traffic signal combos where the cars actually stop at red lights? Where the traffic lights cycle through red, yellow green and the cars respond accordingly?

And, are there any road / intersection combos where the cars will turn? I'm thinking specifically of a "T" intersection. In most I've seen, the car on the "dead end" portion just disappears when it gets to the end of the road.

I'm anticipating placing some roads near the train tracks in part of a planned layout. Since the road and cars will be visible from the train, I'd like them to be a little more realistic if possible.

Thanks!

Yep, the ATLS System.

Look it up on the DLS and download everything. Then I think there should be a tutorial on the forums if you search for it.

Cheers,
Joshua

To follow up on Josh's post, the tutorial's are located on Boats Website

As Mike says, don't forget to look at the Donate button.

ATLS is also great for setting up Crossings. And, Boat has done the ASB System, which controls track crossovers. Which is helpful for US RR's isn't it??

Obviously, you can get some invisible track and just connect it to the right and have a permanently red light there. (Cars in the US are allowed to turn right on a Red aren't they??

I have an ATLS US traffic light that is about to be uploaded. It does need traffic stoppers though. I could do you a T junction variant if that would be of interest.

Cheerio John

Well, I've downloaded the ATLS assets and am experimenting with a simple intersection. Two questions:

1) Will this work with any road that has cars? Or do I need a specific road spline?

2) The ATLS "Car Stopper" downloaded, but is apparently the file is "corrupted" because it shows up as red in the Surveyor menu.

Thanks!

Any road including invisible ones if you want to place a tarmac texture straight onto the board. Not sure about the stopper unless you have any missing dependencies. Look at Boats Sen city range also, the switcher will allow a single lane of traffic to split into two lanes, Ideal for junctions. Check for AJS traffic eraser and AJS traffic.

Did you manage to look at the beta US quad yet?

Thanks John

Unless I can get the "Car Stopper" to work, there won't be any getting creative with junctions...any suggestions how to fix that?

The traffic stopper you mean, you need it for intersections and crossings,

What are the errors being shown??

Jamie

Jamie: Yes, I meant "traffic" stopper. It downloaded along with other elements (controller, traffic lights and slave), but it appears in red type in the menu and there's no preview in Surveyor. Nothing gets placed when I try to add it anyway. How would I get it to show errors? Thanks.

I just right-clicked on Traffic Stopper in Content Manager and went to "View Errors and Warning." It came up zero errors and warnings. But it does have the "Faulty" icon in the list.

Now that sounds weird. I'm pretty sure there is no dependencies. You could always try deleting it and re-downloading.

In CMP you checked for errors, now view dependencies as one of them may have the error and not the stopper. You should have two dependencies show up.

Hi Stagecoach. The "View Dependencies" and "View Dependent Assets" options are both grayed out when I right click on the stopper. Only the "View Errors & Warnings" is 'clickable.' I'm going to try deleting and reinstalling it in case something got corrupted in the download process.

Reinstalling Worked!

Reinstalling appears to have worked! Now back to experimenting to see if I can get this to actually work. Many thanks to everyone for their replies!!

This happens sometimes - for what reason I have no idea. On occasions just viewing the errors and then closing the errors window clears the error from the asset! Other times an open for edit and revert does the trick, reinstalling does not always work... It's a lottery, good job it does not happen often.

Well, I got it to work...sort of. The Car Stopper needs to be away from the spline points in the road, so right now the car stop pretty far ahead of the intersection. I'm using the Road with Sidewalks splines and the associated intersections. The cars stop in the one street, but everyone runs the red light on the one that crosses it! I also noticed that it doesn't work in Surveyor but does in Driver. Is that normal?

Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

PS: One good thing that came out of having to reinstall Trainz 2009 after a computer virus and patching up is that now my cars have headlights at night! They didn't before, which always annoyed me about the night modes. Pretty cool riding in on a train and being able to see the cars go by at night.
