Carriage return (Enter Key) doesn't work

My Enter key does nothing when trying to post or edit in this forum. It's not my keyboard because it works normal in all of my other programs. Any ideas? Bob Weber

Hi Bob, Same problem here. I have found no solution as yet. Works in everything else. Gave up trying to solve it for now. Seems to have happened after the service pack / hotfix install. All the best Andrew.

If you're using IE10 as your browser, look at the address bar (top left) and click the little button to the right of the down arrow (tool tip says "compatibility" and a bit more). The button will turn blue, and the <Enter> key should work. I had this problem when I first got IE10.

Regards,

Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the info regarding IE10 & compatibility mode. This has fixed all the editing issues re using these forums.
Always something simple that some of us miss.

Once again many thanks, Andrew.

My IE10 doesn't have a down arrow by the address bar. Instead, I left clicked Tools in the menu bar, selected Compatibility View settings and checked Display all sites in Compatibility View. As you can see, I can now enter a carriage return.

Thanks everyone, this has been driving me nuts since I upgraded to I.E.10

I've been using FF to make replies but now I can do it in I.E. again:clap:

Cheers
Andi

Also, if you have Javascript turned off on your browser, you will be able to enter carriage returns in a post... but they will disappear when posted. Javascript can be dangerous, but to get posting to work properly you have to (temporarily) enable it. At least that's been my experience.

Are you talking about javascript or Java. They are two different things, and java script is necessary to the operation of most if not all web browsers.

Not quite. It's necessary for those browsers to work as the Web site designers intended - which is often to your disadvantage (in a few cases dangerously so). If you just want to read text, the pages may not look as nice but they're a whole lot safer without javascript.

I never used a browser without java script and I have been at this PC stuff for decades, as part of my employment. Never had any issue with it, on hundreds of computers I have used.
