Can't access https://www.auran.com/ ?

The original page has no html code on it, only empty html, body, and head tags (using debugger) so it evidently is supposed to forward to another page and the forwarding is not working all the time or for some.
The https is automatic! On Edge, as far as I know..

Not according to my page source viewer. There are a lot of <script> tags in the header, including links to Google Analytics, but there is a substantial <body> section with many HTML <div style> and <li> tags

Why is the website still Auran when it’s been N3V for a while?
The domain name is established and has been bought and paid for probably for many years, so why pay for something when you already have it.

ps. It's still blank in Edge. Nothing at all. The body section (body parts) is empty.

For kicks, I tried IE Explorer 5.0 mode and got this:

HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500

This makes me think management is redesigning the website and as usual didn't bother to tell anyone that the website is in the garage for updates and repairs. It would've been nice ya know.

Why make a change that would cause a lot of confusion? If they moved everything over to a new www.N3V.com domain than all the users who had bookmarked the site or any of its original pages using the www.auran.com domain name would immediately lose their access. Sure, they could put a placeholder page at www.auran.com listing the new address (automatic redirections do not always work) but there would be many of us old timers who would not like that - "Marge, how do I add an address as a bookmark again?".

"Keep things simple" is a web design mantra I learned many years ago.

YEP, HTTP 500 error, I think the issue is much more banal and prosaic, the webpage coding is not MS Edge friendly, it is incompatible with it at the moment without some reprogramming...

A few days before hand, I noticed some weird coding under some of the page logos. I didn't think anything much of it, assuming that NV3 Games was updating the site. But a day before the site turned blank, the coding strangely remained!

I just have to keep visiting the forums to visit other Trainz site links, too lazy to update it ;)

I just tried www.auran.com on both Firefox and MS Edge and both loaded the page without any problems.

I don't think the problem is with the page but is possibly elsewhere. For those who are having an issue, is the site being blocked by your AV software or your VPN (if you are using one)? I have encountered problems in the past with accessing some website (but not N3V/Auran) when using a VPN.

500 is a catchall server error, so the server tripped and fell over trying to fetch and deliver the page. Thats not browser dependant.

And a 301 redirect would work fine. Its pretty clear that there is no dedicated admin for the website given the way that there are so many orphaned old pages still languishing there.

Theres no one on the payroll to tidy up the joint with focus solely on the main facade of the "lobby" and "store" when ever they've updated things.

Whenever whoever gets the new shiny up and running from the front door to the checkout, they get sent back to whatever their other job(s) are.

Meanwhile more and more dirt collects under the carpets.

Then can you explain why that same server does not trip and give me a 500 error message when I access that page?

Random chance. Some piece of hardware may be dying, or the server or infrastructure could be getting swamped by something (bots, angsty russians, wombats, take your pick) - their server may be on a dedicated machine, but I doubt it since shared hosting is cheaper - but that means some other site getting bonked affects your up time too.

Some service maybe dying, rebooting, dying again. It may be caching on your end, or theirs.

In the end tho, something is broken and needs fixed on Aurans/N3Vs end.

What about clearing the cache in the Edge? Would it change something?

...
Webpage loads OK in the Firefox and blank page in Edge proves something slightly different?

Not everyone prefers to use Firefox. I prefer to use Edge for it's enhanced security features, unlike in Chrome where it's easy to hack since Google loves to sell our private information to hackers in india. It's why we get those funny phone calls from scammers!

Anyway, it maybe the fact that only a few people are having an issue that the page is completely blank 'IF' I didn't have a PROBLEM. I wouldn't have said anything about it! So, stop making it look like I'm making it up @pware just because YOU aren't having the same issue, doesn't mean that others aren't experiencing the same issue as I am!

Just cleared the Cache in both Firefox and Edge. This made no difference - the page loaded without any issues.

I could accept that the server was behaving "oddly" and that I was just lucky in accessing the site when the server was "behaving itself" once, twice maybe thrice but not every-time. But even so, there are other pages that are on the same domain (and therefore likely to be on the same server) for example the MyTrainz above link will take you to https://www.auran.com//planetauran and the DLS link will take you to There are no reports of problems accessing those pages.

My original hypothesis still stands, it is possibly a local issue at the user end.

So, stop making it look like I'm making it up

Where have I said that you are making it up???

All I have stated is that it could be a problem at the user end - browser, AV, VPN, etc. I have certainly experienced such issues in the past that have turned out to be caused by my AV software and the VPN that I was using.

We have hooked our trains to the N3V wagon. Its problems become ours almost instantly. The same can be said of the web as we spend many hours using a variety of services. All the while the slime of the human race have great fun trying to interrupt our smooth use of this system. With no interest from politicians to enact laws an FCC type management is gone and the bottom of the human barrel is running wild.

I have confidence when I interact with Chase Manhattan but not so with N3V. It is a hobby shop that cannot afford the constant monitoring and updating of software. Just staying current with the latest attempts to penetrate systems is expensive time.

Thus it is up to N3V customers to protect themselves from N3V's possible problems. Telling your personal system protection it is a safe site may not be a good idea. I trust NOTHING, and no one, on the Web.

BUT -- the product is great and my primary source of entertainment. I can only enjoy it to the fullest thanks to the several people here, who have the capacity to untangle the confusing issues that scare the "be-jeebers" out of us from time-to-time. Thanks to those people who really keep this program running.
