I am having problems installing Trainz 2004 and 2006 and paintshed discs. When i first bouight this computer i had no problems installing them at all. Then as luck would have it we had McAffee virus software and we signed on to the internet and here McAffee sent out a virus to all of its users which caused our computer to crash and i had to reformat our drive and reinstall all of the software. That was several months ago and i decided to reinstall my Trainz discs and no matter which disc i put in i keep getting the message that setup or install are not valid win32 applications.I didn't have this problem when i first installed them it installed flawlessly. Now i cannot install any of them so can someone please help because it is one of my favorite sims to play but can't.My computer hardware is well above the requirements that it needs to run. What i have is a dual core Intel Pentium 2.5 ghz that can be overclocked to 3.8 ghz but that i haven't done and i have 2 gigs of memory along with an Intel built in video card that i can allow up to 256 megs of video memory and that is what it is set at.As i said i had no problems installing it before this happened so why now.please help Brian

Hello Brian,

When the OS was re-installed, what version of the OS was put on and were any service packs installed? Was the Hard drive completely reformatted, quick formatted or was the OS re-installed over the existing installation?

I would image you are installing from CD/DVD. Can you read other installation discs from that device?

One other side note, the account you are using for this post does not show a registered version of trs04 or 06. Is it possible that they were registered under a different account? If so, you will have to try to remember that account because the serial numbers will already be recorded to that account and can not be re-registered. If you did register them but can no longer remember the account, you will have register a ticket with the helpdesk and supply them with the serial numbers so they can try to locate the correct account so you can get back on with the games.

Will try to monitor frequently for answers to these Qs but I am working on my house so it could be a while between posts.

Complete reformat

Bricey

I did a complete format not a quick format and all of the service packs have been installed and the reason it's not showing i have a registered version is because at the time when i installed the discs we were not online so now that we are i can register them but until i can install them again i'm at a total stand still.None of our other games or software has given us that message so i still don't know what to do Brian

OK, try this, create a new folder under "my documents" called trs04 and copy the entire o4 cd to that folder and try installing from that folder. I saw this a long, long time ago and copying to the hard drive often works.

Bricey i did a complete reformat of the drive and have all the service packs installed and yes i can and have reinstalled all of our other games and software with no problem at all.The reason i'm not showing up as having a registered copy of Trainz is because at the time when i first installed them we were not on the internet bur now we are so i acn register them now but can't do that until i can get them installed back on our computer Brian

Yup, got that from the first reply. Did you try copying the files to your harddrive? Don't run from the disc.
