cannot install trainz 2004 on vista - service pack 1 and 2

I cannot install trainz 2004 on vista

I was able to install it last year in October - and everything was OK

I have since had to reinstall windows with service pack 1 and service pack 2 - yesterday - as this was not on my original vista

The first time i installed trainz 2004 today - it worked but the rivers in the driver scenarios once loaded were red and green and yellow

I have just uninstalled trainz 2004 and reinstalled - but nothing works

Once i load the driver route i get the error message which starts

A fatal error has occurred

Class: Hardware
Reason: Access Violation

Exception@031085F6 in c:\windows\system32\atioglxx.dll

I don't undertand why i cannot install trainz 2004 on vista with service pack 1 and 2

This is not a graphics or driver issue - as I have other games installed on my PC such as flight simulator, GRID racer, and prince of persia which run fine

Any ideas please

It looks so complicated to install trainz 2004 on vista - i don't know where to start - I am probably better off not bothering - as something might go wrong and disrupt other installations if I attempted it !

what I don't understand is that in October 2008 - I installed trainz 2004 perfectly on Vista - all be it without Vista service pack 1 and service pack 2

But now in August 2009 its impossible to install on Vista with service pack 1 and service pack 2 installed

I cannot think that just the installation of Vista service pack 1 and service pack 2 has disrupted Trainz 2004 installation - but it looks like it

PS - I have got trainz 2006 which I installed on Vista today - it works OK but has a major bug - that is when you try to exit the driver mode when a route or scenario is started - the screen goes black and the game quits completely eventually after clicking the left mouse button - it never goes back to the main menu within the game

yep, if your PC is good i would say go TS2009
