Cannot Enter CD Key

I just bought Trainz 2010 Engineers Edition. When I try to start it, it asks for the CD Key [Add]. The key I used during installation and the one I registered on the web site does not work in this dialog box.

What CD Key should I be entering? The book mentions nothing about entering a CD key, which I had to use during installation anyway.

Am I missing something?

If you have already registered it on Planet Auran, it may be easiest to copy and paste it into the relevant box.

Your CD Key is also known as your serial number.

Top of the forum is a link "Serial Number", click on that and log in with your user name and password. Scroll down, you should see;

Registered Serial Numbers

Below that all the numbers you have for the versions you have registered, like;

Trainz Simulator 2010: Engineers Edition

The letter-number code separated by the hyphens is the code, click and drag the mouse over it to highlight. Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and hit C, that copies the text to a virtual "clipboard" in Windows.

Switch to the box asking for the key, click the mouse in there to get the starting cursor, instead of typing anything hit CTRL V to paste the text you just copied.

That little trick is a lifesaver for me, since all too often I'm squinting at teeny figures thru my greasy bifocals and typing in a 1, i, l, 0, o, and always getting at least one chract3r wr0nq.

Thanks for your fast and thorough replies.

Unfortunately, I seem to be no closer to getting the CD Key to [Add]. I copied and pasted from the web site as suggested, and still get the same message:

"You have not entered a valid serial number. Please check that you are entering English characters."

The key I'm entering has 6x4 character segments separated by dashes, and worked during installation and on the web site.

Any more ideas?

This may be one for the Helpdesk, as we are rather limited in advice to provide for questions concerning CD keys and serial numbers.

May be this..........
Need to Install, run and patch as Administrator if Win7 or Vista especially if you put it in program files.

I tried to register my TS12 with the "Trainz Simulator 12", kept getting that message until I opened the list and saw "Trainz 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition", which is apparently considered a different version for registration purposes. Make sure you're entering the keycode for the one you're installing, and double check what the list says you're activating to make sure it matches.

Solved:

It turns out that the 'optional' components during install are not actually optional. All components need to be installed, then the CD Key adds automatically.

The knowledgebase gave a clue to it.

Thanks for your help guys.
