Can You Mod Auran DLC Without Errors?

Alright I'm planning on getting the Nickel Plate Road DLC from Steam and already have the Areotrain, Duchess, Coronation, Blue Comet, and PRR T-1 and they all don't have prototype whistles. I also have a prototype whistle for Big Boy No.4006 which is built in but when I mod the whistle in the locomotive disappears. I worried that if I do the same for the DLC locomotive that they will disappear too.

well, being that auran DLC is counted as built-in content, editing is not a good idea because auran is too lazy to take out the errors associated with DLC when edited. here's how to edit the horns:

1. open both hornsounds (your's and the DLC's) for edit
2. open both in explorer (right click on both assets and look in the edit tab)
3. take the wav files from your horn and insert them into the DLC's file (replace them all)
4. commit the DLC horn

hope this helps!

You cannot modify, or open the assets for edit. The are protected content and will error should you attempt to edit them. This is why your content disappears from the sessions and surveyor after editing.

This is true even if you created the asset. The only way is to have a second install of Trainz without the DLC pack installed and if you're lucky the asset you wont will be on the DLS and be available to be corrected.

Well Big Boy #4006 is from Trainz 2004 (or was it Trainz 2006) and is not really optimize for Trainz 12. The Areotrain DLC that I have and the Nickel Plate Road DLC that I want to get are optimize for Trainz 12 and I thin there will be problems with those if I try to add a third party whistle.

That's all I want to add really, A more accurate whistle.

Is it possible to create a clone of your preferred whistle using the KUID number of the original but upversioned by one? That way the preferred whistle would replace the original without having to edit any built in items.
