can trainz 12 nv3 work on windows 8

lol windows xp, thats not saying much for a 12 year old os, i would hope windows 8 would run better :-)
It would not be the first time a (much) newer OS introduces more problems with software then an older OS has ;).
Plus a newer OS does not always run better then an older OS. If I recall correctly Windows 95 run better then Windows 98 :hehe: , but we share the same hope and expectations.

I just got windows 8 yesterday it took getting used to, but when I tried it on my friends computer I hated it. I have a touch screen, but my friend does not this may be the problem. If you use windows 8 I would recommend a touch screen. :)

you don't need it though... preference is all that matters...

Works fine with me. The computer only went KA-PLUNK(Off :p) once, nothing serious.
And anyway, it was a non-laggy tutorial.

Go for it I say! :)

I will repeat what I've said in other threads. Trainz works fine in Windows 8. It has the same requirements for running that are needed for running under Vista and Windows 7. Ensure you install the program outside of the C:\Program Files\x86\N3V\TS12 directory. Install it in C:\N3V\TS12 for example instead. Once installed, run the program as administrator.

I have found, after going through some driver issues with my motherboard, that Windows 8.1 works fine. The performance is far superior not only with the overall system but with Trainz TS12 as well. The operating system runs more efficiently that other versions of Windows ever did.

Having tested both previews for 8 and 8.1 I didn't notice much if any difference John, maybe a few milliseconds faster on bootup which as I use SSD's is not worth the additional expense of win8 until its needed. It works Ok even if it does remind me of AOL's walled Garden setup, it's not what I'd call a very well thought out or aesthetically pleasing interface, however most people don't sit looking at the Startup screen or desktop all day. There are some pretty odd desktops appearing in Linux these days as well which are getting increasingly over complicated to customise.
For Metro haters there are some powershell scripts which will completely and permanently remove all the builtin MS stuff or selectively get rid of some of it apart from the Microsoft shop thing, if you don't want or use it and reclaim some disk space. Plus there are 1001 tips and customisations you can mess around with. As with all operating systems you can tweak it to suit your own requirements. Just because it looks weird doesn't mean it won't work well.
Curiously one of my acquaintances, who recently went from XP to Win8, saw my Win7 and wanted to know what OS it was, " What's that is it Linux?" No I said it's Windows 7, "Oh, it looks much better than Windows 8" was the reply.

Perhaps I see the difference because I boot up off of older hard drives. I've run some of the utilities to change the start menu. They work okay and the one I used from IO-Bit allowed the best of both worlds. I believe in Windows 8.1 you can disable to Metro interface totally and boot right into the desktop directly. I haven't tried it yet. You still the Metro interface for some applications but the system returns back to the desktop when they are finished.

I agree with you on the overly complicated desktops. My favorite 'nix desktop was the old KDE interface with simple file menu, file manager, multiple desktops, and terminal windows. There's no need for pretty stuff at the desktop. You don't spend all day staring at that either. Even with Windows, I have a simple blue, it was black, desktop background. The fancy graphics make finding things difficult if they've been placed there for easy access.

I have found that by running T12 as Administrator from Win8 you lose the ability to drag and drop content or CDP directly into CMP. Has anyone else found this to be so?

Win8 was a bit of a learning curve but as has already been said, Click on the Desktop icon on the start up screen and you're back on familiar territory.

As an aside our IT department will not migrate to Win8, they're very happy with XP, when the Olympics came along they had to go out and buy a couple of hundred laptops, all had WIN7 on, will they upgrade the office desk tops, will they heck as like. They re-issued them to those of us who had to be mobile, along with the dreaded Blackberry. My personal phone/tablet/desktop does the same job a whole lot less painfully. Point is businesses will not change if what they've got works or the change isn't going to cost them money (or someone else is paying). That cannot therefore be seen as a damming indictment of Win8.

I just love the fact that I can have the same programs on my phone, my tablet or my desktop each one has access to all my files via SkyDrive. Computer manufacturers are heading that way now ever since the explosion of the so called social media which is one aspect of it all I do not use.

My tuppence worth.

No, it worked fine for me. I ran into problems with Auran/NV3/DLS and some 3rd party content issues, which may be the game or the servers. Currently backed it all up, deleted, installed again, now getting ready to try a basic trial and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, got to wait it out. Windows 7/8/8.1 all worked fine for me, even with TS2010.

Windows 8 really isen't that bad on Trainz for me, it might only be because I've got a PC now instead of a laptop, but it seems to run slightly better.
