can trainz 12 nv3 work on windows 8

There are rumors that Microsoft plans to add a "boot to desktop" option to SP1. Perhaps they'll also provide the option for the legacy start menu?

There is a big debate now in Microsoft whether they want to go back to "boot to desktop" The people that created Windows 8 look at it as a step backwards, because they want to force the user to give up the idea of the desktop and move into the Metro environment. So whether not not that is part of Blue, is still not clear yet. Microsoft feels that the Tablet and the phone and touchscreens will be where everything will be, and is betting the farm on it. Unfortunately for MS, public outcry has been inundating MS, and they are now admitting that they are being forced into fixing many of the problems with Windows 8. What remains to be seen, is if they plan on charging people for this "upgrade" or not.

If you want to learn more about windows, this person probably forgot more than most people will ever know about the OS and it's different versions. I listen to his 2 hour podcast every week. http://winsupersite.com/

Call me old fashioned and resistant to change but that Windows 8 screen is the ugliest and most visually unappealing thing I've seen. I don't own a smartphone, don't want one and don't want my computer to look like one. You young people can have all your mobile touch screen gadgets but leave us old folks and our desktop pc's alone!!!!! *shakes fist

If my XP machine hadn't died, I'd probably still be running XP. I don't leave comfort zones easily anymore. I'll keep using Win7 as long as I can. Choice is a good thing.

Some 8 users would wanna be getting paid by MS for all this promoting of Win 8 on a game forum. Just consider the fact that what works well for you doesn't mean it should work well for others.

At the end of the day, most are happy with their OS no matter what platform they own, it does the job! All this confusion of convincing the majority that a carbon banana is better than a plastic carrot is just plain hypocrisy.

for those of us that have used windows for along time, windows 8 is not a huge deal to change over to i admit, i am one of them. i bought my parents a new pc a couple months ago and it came with windows 8, they both don't like it much, in windows 8's defense my parents do use a couple apps for the news and weather lol, but once they are on the desktop they become completely confused, now we are talking about a couple people that are in there early 60's and don't have much knowledge of computers. thats simply one of the points i am trying to make. in regards to windows 8 being faster, for people that know anything about the registry in windows, i can go into the windows 7 registry and can almost replicate the speed of shutdown and startup in windows 7 just like windows 8. i also understand the kernel in windows 8 has been optimized as well to be more stable and faster. if microsoft would have simply made a desktop version of windows 8 that behaves just like windows 7, they would have created a great os. we should just simply have an option to decide which version we would want to install. windows 8 in my mind was created to make microsoft more money with the app store. microsoft has just let to many people down, and unless there are major changes in windows 8.1 i really daubt its going to change things as far as sales go.

There is a way of restoring certain features to Windows 8 using the Classic Shell software, it's not something I'd advise Windows 7 users to upgrade to unless you are willing to learn new methods of working or installing third-party software.

yes i bought start 8 when i had windows 8 installed, and it did work well, but the start menu should have never been removed at all.if they wanted the start button gone completely, microsoft could have done it over a period of time, not just abruptly.

Fair enough - I'm not going to argue over that.

However, I know that certain Stardock software does not work well with Trainz (WindowBlinds).

I've used more operating systems than I care to remember but in my view Win 8 on a desktop with a keyboard and mouse doesn't make sense. I understand it runs cleaner and faster than Win 7 but what's the point if the interface is designed for people to swipe their fingers across the screen.

But to answer the original question - I have TS12 running in Win 8 and it works fine. Although I sometimes get the tablet interface back unintentionally and I can't find Trainz again.

If I ever hear that the plane I am about to take a ride on has a Win 8 interface for the pilot, I'm gonna get off and walk.

I have licences for just about all Stardock Windows related software and my favourite by far is Fences. I have a whole virtual desktop devoted to Trainz stuff including your website.

Sounds good. From what I've gathered though, Windowblinds (which I believe is from Stardock) is responsible for quite a few issues amongst Trainz users.

A lot of times consumers don't like things being forced on them. Does "New Coke" ring a bell?

LOL.. I can just see the pilot trying to figure out which way to swipe the display, heading for the ground at 450 knots.... :'(
