what does OHNS mean

thank you

Good question. The whole thing is riddled with acronyms. CCTV could be 'closed circuit television'. is this an English (British) line?

Is this the only page you have? A lot of schematics like that have at least one page devoted to abbreviations and the like. Without something like that, it's only a guess.

Hmmm. All I can think of is 'overhead something something'. Sorry, not much help.

BTW: is the mileage shown in both meters and chains? Is that what the "Ch" means?

EDIT: Is that the only place where the 'OHNS' appears? If so, then maybe it is some sort of switch tower, or exchange guard shack (?).

I can also see that the OHNS is indicated by something on each track - one on the UP and one on the DOWN. The indicator is a little square box. Hotbox detector or something like that maybe? Or, possibly something on the overhead wiring like a fuse or breaker?

EDIT: Overhead [something] Separator?

there looks like there 5 on the up and 5 on the down

total lengh is 35 miles i would have thought they would have more if fuses or breakers

Well, it's quite late (or early, actually) over there now. Perhaps when more of the UK gang comes on later they might know. It is intriguing though.
