Can a Trainz installation be (easily) reverted back to a previous build?

I've been having weird issues, including being unable to move existing rolling stock on a DLS route. It looks like maybe the issue was introduced with the latest Trainz 22 PE release, along with other problems. That's the reason for my question...

Do you have backups?

You will need a previous version of the program download.
Restore your content from a backup.

Other than that, you're kinda stuck. You might be lucky if you haven't made any content changes, i.e. edited and saved one of your routes and sessions and be able to reinstall the previous version, if you have that, and reconnect to your data, you should be all set.

This is why we back up everything. We've all been burned at one time or another.

Anyway, so what's happening that makes you think there's an issue?

Make sure you have downloaded all content updates available including those on the Content Store and DLS.

I guess that means I'm stuck, unless Steam provides a way to install a prior release - I haven't knowingly backed up anything Trainz related, other than routinely saving new route and session versions as I edit them. Having been out of Trainz for a long time, and assuming the new issues were caused by the latest release, is it typical for a Trainz update to break significant program features, like being able to move existing rolling stock, etc.?

Not usually.

The inability to move rolling stock. You mean, the track doesn't act like track, or place track objects such as signals, switch levers, etc.?

This is a database-related bug and there's a workaround I came up with back in T:ANE that has finally affected everyone except for me. Seriously!

Go into Content Manager.
Click on the small arrow next to the word Filter: Installed.

This will expand the filter.
Click on the + sign located on the right.

You will see Asset KUID.
Scroll that until you see Category.
On the right side of that, change the category to track.

Highlight all your track by clicking on one and pressing CTRL+A to select them all.

Right-click on one of them and choose Open for editing.

Wait until all are opened for editing and then:

Right click and choose submit.

Any built-in or packaged assets can't be submitted. You will need to right-click on those again and choose Revert to original.

This should reset your track.

I have just installed the new update to version build 128487 Trainz PE. Since updating, while carrying on with my latest route, I have encountered a couple of debug windows. Track objects now don't load to existing track ie SIG 4 A signals, track markers etc won't load to UK Concrete or LT Tunnel track, I get the message "Incompatible Spine". Anyone have any ideas or is this a wait for a fix to issued.

See the post above. I also posted this separately.

JC - one specific (new since the update) issue I'm having is no longer being able to move existing rolling stock to a different location (like another track, for example). When I try to do that in surveyor 2.0, the object "rotates" and detaches from the track, and I'm unable to place it on any track. I had never had this happen before. It occurs when I try to edit a "BNSF: Clovis to Lubbock" session. It does not appear to happen when I try to edit a Coal Country session, so maybe it's specific to certain routes.

I had tried to fix the issue as you described above (thank you), but it didn't work for me. I probably did something wrong. Then I deleted all the track objects associated with the BNSF route, and re-download, but because my FCT has expired, it's taking all day to download.

So pretty frustrating. Without degenerating into trashing N3V - because a lot of the improvements compared to Trainz years ago, it's a huge improvement - one of my pet peeves is software updates that break prior, working, core functions, like placing rolling stock. Just saying.

Your pet peeve is the same for all of us!

Try downloading the route again. The issue is really odd.

Ok, JC - I followed the steps you detailed above, then for any track assets that still showed an error - listed in content manager with a red font - I attempted first to revert to original. Some I was able to revert, some not. Finally, for the remaining track assets in red I right clicked "download"; this worked with the majority.

And I'll be darned - I am now able to once again move rolling stock around in surveyor 2.0 on the (amazing) BNSF route. So I have no idea what any of that technical stuff means, but thanks!!

Great to hear. I'm glad I can help.
