Just a heads up, the current issue, August 2011, of "Trains" magazine has an interesting article on Cajon Pass. Included is a satellite view of the route with both BNSF & UP mile post and control points noted, also included are historical facts on the area & route.

Re Cajon Pass

I remember it well from my drives from LA to Vegas. Fortunately my library carries Trains so I'll check it out tomorrow.

For anyone wanting to create a Cajon Pass route, there is a terrain-only map (route) on the DLS, so you have no excuse:
