Bumping old threads needs to stop...

It's a never-ending paradox of any forum you'll ever visit.

Post a new thread asking for information that's probably hidden in some old thread, and you get yelled at for not using the search function.

Use the search function and ask a relevant question in said old thread, and you get yelled at for bringing up old threads.

Start a new thread so you don't get yelled at for bringing up old ones, and...well..:o

This just goes to show that you just can't please everyone. I can't understand the big deal about bumping an old thread. I personally like the fact that the 'putting a face to a name' thread comes back up every now and then. I find it interesting. There must be some magical unwritten rule out there somewhere about letting old threads die and to what end, I haven't a clue.

Ill go for the popular vote and say that i don't mind old threads being brought up IF they have anything to do with what the threads about , Now im not naming names but a fellow user * Cough * Nstrainz * Cough * got a thread banned the other day because after 3 months of it being quite he brought back what looked like a fight over CSK or something like that.

Jesus bwoy, chill out. It is a Trainz forum, not a politics forum, and its public, people can do as they want, and these things are gonna happen on a forum. It's funny how it bothers you so much, I have an image of you very frustrated with things. To be honest there is not a fine balance at all. It just depends on what people are reading or writing at the specific date and shouldn't matter to anyone what this 'balance' is. Obscure threads are good too, and with 195 countries in the world, loads of versions of trainz, the thousands of assets on the DLS, the age range of users and the biological diversity of life, this isn't going to stop. It would be boring if it did.

Have a milkshake my friend and sluuurp.

ps. then buuuuurp

I'm afraid, my friend, that you must have missed the point of my post. Note the "sarcasm" tags (in html, because I'm a nerd like that:D:p) I personally don't care either way, I'm point out alternatives and other factors in this for others to see.

Edit: Just a question: who's going around rating threads with one star?

I guess I might give my opinion

On the second though....my opinion is a bit streched and rude.
Forget about my post, Mod please delete.:)

Lately, I've noticed more and more threads over a year (sometimes 2) being bumped up, generally with a message like "Um hi where can i get this _______ k thx". Is there something that can be done about this?

A forum is a place of knowledge whether it be the last thread posted or the first it is useful to someone.

I'd like to be able to bump some of the threads from the old forum which went & died in it's prime. There was some great info there. Maybe more than we have in this forum.

If this is the way it has to be then we should immediately stop support for all versions of Trains except for TC3 as all other versions are now history & should not be bumped

Dave.

Nothing wrong with helping another Trainzer out by posting some useful information. Help is always welcome. Bumping a post should be a constructive and helpful thing.

Cheers

AJ

big_b - Are you trying to force users to stop asking questions about older versionz of Trainz and focus on TC3 only? I don't have TC3, and won't for somewhile, so I disagree with that. :n:

Try reading his post again...

He is saying that if it were the case (stopping people from bumping old threads), then maybe user support of anything below TC3 should be stopped. But it isn't the case, for both parts...

No such thing as an "old" thread

If a subject is relevant to an "old" thread, then the said thread isn't really an old thread - (Certain other simulators are around 7+ years old, yet is still people interested.)

For example, the Australian XPT/UK HST/TGV, etc trains are around 25 - 30 years old, yet are still able to take passengers, and in two cases, high speeds.

Having less threads makes it easier to search - BUT

on the other hand, I do support of only having say only 10 photos per screehshot thread.

Do you mean per post? I

But here is MY opinion to make it easier for slower internet connections.

That a poster can post 10 pictures (maybe 15 if pictures smaller than 640 pixels wide), then the replies about the pictures. For example the Australian screenshot thread as probably has well over 100 or 200 pictures, and because of that, I can't comment in it(1), unless I wait, and wait, and wait, and wait (could be well over 30 minutes - this may include public computers depending on their plan)

1. But in that case, I would make a new thread, if I want to show pictures and/or screenshots.

My comp loads ALL pics pretty fast. :D

And I think all threads should be opened to endless amounts of screenies. My suggestion:- If a thread opens up too slow for you, why do you view it in the first place? :)

I agree!
@FC2, your comment was out of line as some members of this forum may not have access to faster internet connections, but they should be accommodated on this site.

However, it is up to Auran to decide how many pictures should be in a thread.

Sorry(!)

Red_Rattler has a good point here.

The problem is worse when a quoted reply is posted which also includes the pictures.I have often seen large pictures posted in a thread only to be repeated a number of times in quoted replies.

If people took a bit of time to edit the quote to only the relevant points it would make it easier for everyone.

I usually drop back to dial up speeds for the last week of my account period until I go back to broadband during this time I very rarely go near the screen shots threads or bypass other threads depending on how fast they load.
