Thanks!

Good idea, since people will be spent up after Xmas. Don't buy components at high street shops, shop around on ebay and suchlike for bargains.

John,

congrats on your new power eater! mine has an 800w power supply if i am not wrong but most times not use more than 600w only my gtx 580 is a bad boy should replace it with your gtx 680 or 690 should eat much less power they say is it true you have one I have the power gtx580 toaster at times only certain progs like video makers not on Trainz!
I am quiet surprised all looks great but missing what is essential for trainz an SSD dedicated only Trainz.
I still have also a bunch of old sata mechanical disc but slowly they start show read and disc errors so they are reaching their end of their life cycle I bet.
Please if you can change to one 128GB or higher SSD Intel (very good and steady) it does more than the "old" ram.
Correct me if I am wrong John!
I run my cpu also overclocked at 4.4 Ghz. Runs perfect for me.

have a great day

Roy

Hi guys.
My PC was damaged by lightning and it is being replaced ( insurance) .I am green at this kind of stuff.
Here are the basic specs, can you's please advise me what I should improve on , seeing that I have the opportunity now, for instance to run Roy's 3 in one route comfortably. The old system was sweating to cope with the large routes. I will just pay in the difference to what you guys advise. I don't want to go overboard please, just a system to cope reasonably well.

Intel IvyBridge Core i5 3330 CPU
Raidmax ATX Case with 600w PSU
1gb 128bit Graphics Card
MSI Z77A Motherboard:-Integrated motherboard , Lan Sound VGA
4gb ddr3 memory module,
750Gb Sata Hard drive
22x dual layer dvd writer ,
Mouse, keyboard, speakers
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
18.5"LCD Monitor
600VA UPS

Thanks for your time beforehand

Jan

I would suggest a better graphics card. 1 GB is a little puny nowadays for anything as demanding as Trainz. 2Gb would be more like it or 3gb if you can afford it. I'm selling my 3Gb Radeon 7950 on ebay and it eats Trainz for breakfast. An SSD with Trainz installed on it and 8Gb of RAM would complete the picture. RAM is very cheap nowadays.

I agree. The built-in Intel Video won't cut it for Trainz, or any real game and graphics use.

Nice system you have. I have the GTX680 instead of the GTX690, which was a bit out of my budget.

It hurt my budget a little bit too but I bought it OEM and if I get around £200 for the old card it brings the price down further, and of course I don't need to think about a better card for a couple of years!

That's a good deal. I paid $425 for my GTX680, which is about what you paid for your 690!. The GTX690 was going for close to $1,000 at the time when I was building my PC.

I agree this will be some video card that you won't have to replace for a few years. :)

Good luck with it.

After surviving on a 462 socket processor with 2Gig of ram for the last 7 years (trying to run trainz has been a hair wrenching experience) I was determined to build a new machine, even though funds have been at a serious low. So I have been collecting Parts over the last 2 years, when I could afford, and am finally up and running.

New machine is

CPU AMD Phenom IIx4 Black Edition 980 3.7Ghz
MoBo Asrock 890FX Extreme Deluxe3
Mem Crucial Balistix 16Gb(4x4Gb)
GPU 2X Sapphire Radeon HD7770 1Gb 1000Mhz
HDrive WD VelociRaptor 10,000rpm 500Gb
Optical Pioneer X24 DVD Write/Read
PSU Everest 800 Watts
Case Aerocool VS-9
Cooling Arctic F120mm Fans X4
F140mm X1
NZXT Sentry LXE Stand alone LCD touch screen fan controller
O/S Windows 7 Professional 64Bit with Service Pack 1

It was my first ever build and all is running sweet, I'am so happy. Now to upgrade my Trainz package.

Nice system! I hope you get many years out of this one too. ;)

I am thinking that all these systems built within the last year to year and a half do not need overclocking. Everyone probably has GPUs that are newer, too. I am still kicking a Core i7 975 Extreme Edition, ASUS P6T, finally up to 24GB RAM (why not?), dual SSDs in RAID0 (Corsair Force 3 80GB each), Creative Labs Sound Blaster Titanium X-fi, LG DVD-RW, Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W PSU, Zotac GTX 580 w/3GB GDDR5, all stuffed into the Antec 1200 case.

Must admit An SSD would have rounded it off nicely but with being on a budget had to opt for the next best thing, that being the Western Digital VelociRaptor Drives.
Spinning at 10,000rpm and a transfer rate of 6Gbps, you get more than double the amount of Gb to the pound than an SSD. Still, there's plenty of room left in the case, so the SSD will be next, followed by a Western Digital 2Tet Black Harddrive. He says hopefully !!! But till then am well happy with how this new rig is running

Well, I was lucky enough to score several side jobs since the middle of November, and finished the last one just Saturday before Christmas. I saved the cash just for the purpose of building a new PC, since my older Core 2 Duo build has run it's course, at least for gaming. The new build is a Christmas present to myself, since no one else saw fit to give me one, except for my dear sister, however pears and apples make for lousy computing!

Anyway, since you asked:

CoolerMaster HAF full tower 932 USB 3.0 case

Intel i7 3770k processor

Corsair CWCH80 Hydro CPU Liquid Cooler

Asus Sabertooth Z77 Intel series 7 Motherboard

BenQ 27" backlit LED monitor

Corsair Vengeance 16Gb RAM at 1600 (4X4GB)

Crucial 256GB SSD (M4) X 2

Cooler Master 800W Silent Pro Modular PSU

EVGA GTX 670 FTW Video Card

LG Internal sata DVD Writer

Windows 7 Pro 64

and:

two Barracuda sata storage drives from my old PC.

I had all the parts by Saturday evening, assembled it on Sunday and have been moving and installing programs since then. I would have saved over a hundred dollars by ordering the parts from New Egg, but I live in a condo building, and have had mail order items stolen from me in the past. Luckily, I have a Tiger Direct about 7 miles away who were more than happy to take my money, and charge tax as well. Not figuring the rebates, I suppose I put about 2 thousand into it. I figure it should last at least 5 years.
