Built a new PC

Well, I was lucky enough to score several side jobs since the middle of November, and finished the last one just Saturday before Christmas. I saved the cash just for the purpose of building a new PC, since my older Core 2 Duo build has run it's course, at least for gaming. The new build is a Christmas present to myself, since no one else saw fit to give me one, except for my dear sister, however pears and apples make for lousy computing!

Anyway, since you asked:

CoolerMaster HAF full tower 932 USB 3.0 case

Intel i7 3770k processor

Corsair CWCH80 Hydro CPU Liquid Cooler

Asus Sabertooth Z77 Intel series 7 Motherboard

BenQ 27" backlit LED monitor

Corsair Vengeance 16Gb RAM at 1600 (4X4GB)

Crucial 256GB SSD (M4) X 2

Cooler Master 800W Silent Pro Modular PSU

EVGA GTX 670 FTW Video Card

LG Internal sata DVD Writer

Windows 7 Pro 64

and:

two Barracuda sata storage drives from my old PC.

I had all the parts by Saturday evening, assembled it on Sunday and have been moving and installing programs since then. I would have saved over a hundred dollars by ordering the parts from New Egg, but I live in a condo building, and have had mail order items stolen from me in the past. Luckily, I have a Tiger Direct about 7 miles away who were more than happy to take my money, and charge tax as well. Not figuring the rebates, I suppose I put about 2 thousand into it. I figure it should last at least 5 years.

Looks nice, jealousy over the monitor though. I'm having to make do with my old miss matched pair of, ViewSonic 17inch flatscreen and IIyama 19inch CRT. Me being their 3rd owner.
Ah well...... Gives me something to dream about.

Not bad at all, the 3770k seems a popular choice.

Well, it's overkill for me. I know that for strictly gaming I spent too much, but I wanted the unlocked multiplier and the hyper threading too. When they sold it for $280.00 they pretty much tipped my hand!

Thanks. The monitor was more of an after thought than anything else. I had previously given my old flat screen to my son, so I needed to buy another one so I could have both PC's running at the same time. The one I chose was based on price and features as it compared to my old Samsung 24" monitor.

The motherboard was a choice I agonized over for a few weeks. I have a friend who is going to go with the new Asus Z77 deluxe board, but it has too many features for me. I don't need Bluetooth and wireless and Thunderbolt, and the five year warranty on the Sabertooth pretty much made my decision for me, as well as the extra dust protection. Although it's one of the earliest Z77 motherboard releases it also has many positive reviews, and seems to have held up well since it's release. I realize the "TUF Armour" is just semi-gimmicky plastic fluff, but other than that it seems logically built to reduce temperatures across the board. Contrary to what some have said I can't even hear the two tiny fans meant to move air across the board, in fact I can't hear the seven other fans in the case even though it's sitting right at my elbow. Perhaps I should get my hearing checked!

In all builds, the motherboard is the foundation for the rest of the PC. I have had a top of the line ASUS board die early on me before, and it left me disappointed to say the least. I looked at every major brand but kept coming back to the spartan Sabertooth. Some were not carried by Tiger Direct, so were dismissed out of hand, most were packed with more features than I wanted to pay for, and others were relatively thinly or badly reviewed. Hardware testing sites on the net tend to value price when they recommend builds on their sites, but I was looking for a reputation for dependability.

Overall I am quite pleased with the new box, and content to know that I have room for upgrading when needed. Needless to mention that it runs games very well, although I have not given it much of a test on Trainz yet. I have been too busy running through older games at high settings so I could experience them in their glory. I received Assassin's Creed III and Borderlands 2 with the video card, so I imagine they'll do through the winter until I purchase Far Cry 3.

Ed,

Congratulations on your new computer. This is a really nice system and should last you awhile.

It does give the board a good clean look.

I put an auxiliary fan on my Sabertooth P67 to make up for the lack of a downward blowing CPU fan due to water cooling. It looks like yours comes with it.

Looks like a sweet set up.:udrool:

The only thing I would quibble with in Euphods build is the HAF 932. I bought one a couple of years ago because I didn't know the HAF-X was available; however having bought a HAF-X I have seen this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...w=&pup_c=pla&gclid=CIb7kKfexbQCFSTLtAodH0sAlA which is like computer porn.
I am currently inching my way to full water cooling and here is a shot of my first steps.BTW I hate the way my Temple/PC looks in a flash photo :'(

For my mobo there is a device called "MSI Voice Genie" which allows you to give it voice commands but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. :(

BTW if you have an Android phone look for "HAL 9000" App.

That cooler is awesome. I'm interested in finding out how well it works. I'm getting excellent cooling with air right now so I'm not interested in modding, I'm just curious on what your results will be with water.

The Raystorm waterblocks are some of the best regarded there are so it should do well. I plan to run a series of tests on my current setup (Corsair H100) then with my new setup for comparison.Watercooling is the most mind boggling thing I have ever done, not least because of the huge variety of fittings and the vague articles and videos on how to do it. One of the benefits will be that I can get rid of the Corsair H100 with its bunch of 5 cables - I am a cable management obsessive and I am working towards a PC with NO cables (joke).

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron N 5110 Laptop with i7 processor
8GB memory
1 TB Hard Drive
1 GB NVIDIA Ge Force GT 525M Graphics.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

It runs my trainz 2010 very well

This looks like a big casino hotel on the Las Vegas strip!

Cool. :D

Cheers! The Revodrive (under the GPU) has twin blue power LED's and green LED's either side which flash when there is Hard Drive activity. Kinda reminds me of the alien saucers out of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

Very awesome, Lewis.

My system is a bit quieter looking insde than yours. :)

I have the Crucial case that looks very similar, but didn't water cool it. The temps are pretty low though with the latest components running really, really cool compared to the old days. I think my CPU is at 54C at worst case, and my GTX680 runs at 50C when I'm doing a lot of driving. With the EVGA Precision X, I boost up the fan and the temps drop down to about 37C when driving. Not bad for air-cooling!

I was initially thinking of drilling the window to have a fan for the GPU but there seems to be no effect on temperatures. My CPU is about 28 - 32 degrees on idle and Trainz barely makes a difference, either to CPU or GPU.

Lewisner's rig looks super purty, and I'm sure the water cooling unit will open the door for some serious overclocking and power computing.
Like John, I had budget issues when compiling my wish list. I settled on air cooling (via a huge Noctua NH14 w/twin 140mm fans) for my 3.99Ghz overcloclocked Intel i7 950 quad core processor.
After 2 years the rig runs just fine. rarely exceeding 52-54 degC at the processor.
I did think of future expansion also, powering the monster with a 1000 watt Corsair PS.
The case.........a sturdy Cooler Master HAF932, which offers plenty of space, 3 - 230 mm fans for air circulation front side and top. Also a 140mm fan at rear, mounted for the power supply.
I'm getting the feeling that my NVidia GTX 570 video card may be getting a bit dated, although I've had no issues to date. I can afford $500 for a newer one, maybe 6 months or a year from now; but $1k is definately outa' the question!
I put WIN7 Home on a 80 Gb Intel SSD. I bought a Intel 120 GB SSD and installed it over a year ago, which has only TS12 on it. Both SSD's are doing just fine, being both all in the green when I checked them last week.
Two months ago I installed a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD audio card to take a bit of load off the CPO and MOBO. Sounds great, especially with headphone. (I got cheep speekers!)
Regards and good luck with your new rigs, gents.
