Building & Sharing Routes

Hello,

I'm really new to this community - as it is my first post - and I have a few questions.

First of all, I have just bought and installed the game but I've heard a problem about being done editing my first route (in Surveyor mode, I believe? In the map editing tool. From scratch.), then left the game, having the surprise upon coming back to find the route just gone despite having saved it. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Secondly, concerning routes in general. How do I share them once they are finished with the rest of the community? (I use the 2012 version). If I put any extra contents, will other people have to download the dependencies one by one, or will they see the buildings into the routes anyway?

I guess this is the right section but please correct me if I'm wrong. ^^

Edit - How can I make the 2012 branch appear next to my name? I've got an online key and all, so I'd assume it'd get there. Or do I need to finalize installation (one .bin file is still downloading)

I wish You well,

Amy

Hello Amy. First thing you have to do is register your game with Auran. Did you buy the game online, or did you buy a physical copy (CD)? There should be a code on the back of the CD case, or when downloaded it should have given you a registration number.

To register, simply scroll to the top of the page, and across the blue header bar, click the one tab that reads "Register"

Hi and welcome to Trainz,
How can I make the 2012 branch appear next to my name? I've got an online key and all, so I'd assume it'd get there. Or do I need to finalize installation (one .bin file is still downloading)
Go here to register your game:
https://www.auran.com/planetauran/SN_Enter_Serialnumber.php
If you are still downloading 1 .bin file, then that might explain that you are getting weird bugs. I am kinda surpriced that you could even install the game without having everything downloaded.

Once you got the game, be sure to patch the game to the latest build first. This currently is 49922. To do so: In the start-up screen (with the 8 buttons) go to options and find where you can enter your username and password. You will find a patch button there. Give it some time to patch; a tiny bit of patience helps a lot here.

If you have build a route, you can use content manager to upload your work. Please take some time to add a thumbnail and a usefull description before uploading. Also dont upload half-done work; If you like comments on your work in progress consider posting screenshots in the screenshot section instead.

Hope this helps. If not, feel free to ask more questions, but please also consider using search as many questions have already been answered.

Allrighty, I've registered the game properly. Still hanging onto the one last file to fully setup, though.

Concerning that issue with routes that vanish, would saving the routes in another folder than Program Files or a system folder work? How about Administrator mode (Windows 7 version that is)?

Thanks a lot anyhow! :)

Yes, yes, yes. Install or move ANYWHERE EXCEPT \Program Files (X86), I know that's where it defaults to, but it's the one place where anyone who is not a computer wizard should NOT install anything you intend to modify. Move the TS12 folder from there to C:\ or C:\Games or your desktop, create a shortcut to the new location, set the shortcut to run as administrator.

Regarding your missing route, try going into Content Manager ("Content" from the main menu), click File, then Extended Database Repair. There is an alternative too such as restoring from a backup, but try this first.

Going forward, it's a good idea to make a backup by simply highlighting the route in the listing on the right and selecting "Save to CDP". I like to do this after every 3-4 hours of work.

Regarding sharing, the best thing to do is, once you're finished, give a few people a copy of your route via email and let them test it, to spot anything that may be missing. Once those folks give it a thumbs-up, you can upload it to the DLS.

Could the missing route be a case of having to untick the show favourites only option, in the menu?

Have done so, and didn't have a single problem with missing routes anymore :) Thank you very much!

(It's upsetting to come back to your route only to find it hasn't saved beyond the very first one) ^^

I have looked a bit everywhere but haven't found my answer concerning my other question, that is : If someone downloads a route I've made in which I've added Download Station dependencies, will this person be able to see the dependency nonetheless (will it be included with the route file) or will they need to go and download them (or will the game do that automatically)?

If the dependencies are on the Download Station, they will be includud in the Download Helper and will install automatically along with the route.

Allrighty. I had figured so but one of the routes I had downloaded prior to asking winded up missing a ton of dependencies (the Berlin S-Bahn one), so I wasn't quite sure anymore. I don't want to make heavy use of dependencies either for the sake of download economies, though, but there's a few I will still need.

All in all, thank you very much for answering! :)
