final 2 boards

this is the rough layout of the final 2 boards of the Buckingham Branch short line that I am building. I still have a lot of finishing details to do. This is where the line goes through the wooded area down to the James River at Bremo Bluff, Virginia and joins the CSX line that runs along the James from Richmond, Va to Lynchburg, VA.

Now to start with the details. I will also probable add a couple of boards on each side of this last one to hide the end of the river etc.

Ready for upload

Well, I believe I have this route ready for upload accept for one hurdle which I can't seem to get over. I would like to give the places on the route names. I would like to be able to tell the driver to navigate from Bremo (east end) to Dillwyn (west end). Problem is: it seems trains will only let you navigate to "stations", "mills" or "mines" which already have those names. I tryed rename a station and move it underground but trainz will not let me change the height of those objects. I tryed naming some small sheds (and other things) but they don't show up in the "navigate to" menu. I have a feeling that it has something to do with editing the script. I am hesitate to ask for help because I did ask in the trainz 2009 section and a couple of people tried to help but a couple more gave me very short answers and made me feel like they were saying, "You dumbass, you should already know this". I guess you have some A__holes everywhere you go, Right? :(

Oh well, when I got it worked out, I will be ready to upload..

Trackmarks

Skid, your screenshots get better and better.

The way of adding names that looking for is to use Trackmarks. You can request a driver to Drive to one (he stops when he arrives) or to Drive Via one (he just uses it as a way point and keeps going - the assumption being that you will have a Drive To after that).

You can see them in Surveyor, or on the mini-map, but not in Driver.

Hope this helps.

Oh, I nearly forgot, you can change the name of your turnouts - from "Junction 587" to "XYZ Lumber Entry". This helps people that use session scripting tools like SCS to make path setting easier.

Cheers

Richard

Skid names are case sensitive, and you can use underscores which do not appear on-screen, so if you have something named say Smithville you can call something else SMITHVILLE or _Smithville_ or _SMITHVILLE_ and Trainz will see all four as different names...

Andy ;)

Thanks Richard and Andy. That was a big help and believe me, this being my first route, I need all the help I can get. I really appreciate it. I will go over the route and name all the junctions.

I am sure that all you seasoned veterans will find a lot of things wrong with this route. Some errors you might be disgusted with and others you might laugh at. I just want it to be as good as I can make it with my limited knowledge of the railroad world and the Trainz program. I have found things that I don't like about routes I have downloaded and try to make sure that I don't have them with this one.

Now to start researching how to upload a route and all the dependances. I am wondering if it is better to upload it to the download station or make a CPD file and put it on a different site.

Sir,

From the screenshots I would say that you have done a fantastic job. It's hard to believe this is your first route. I look forward to running it.

Did you figure out the use of track markers? If not, they are on the track panel in surveyor. Click the right most button at the top of the panel. Choose track marker and then click the location on the track you want the marker to be located. A dialog opens to allow you to name the marker. These names then will appear in Driver under the Navigate to Trackmark menu.

Again great work,

William

Thanks William. I really appreciate the kind words and the assistance. I think I have the markers figured out. Now I need to know how the upload it.:o Any help along those lines would also be greatly appreciated. I am guessing that I just right click on it in CM2 and upload. I would like to make sure all the dependences go with it.

It will probable be a few days. I keep finding little things to add to it and other small tweaks.. I have a video of the last part up on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ulHsjHau6o. If anyone sees anything I need to change or add, Please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Skidmark,

The project of high quality, the images are of an incredible reality.

The game of colors is surprising between the sky and the various lights.

The magnificent project of which I am in admiration... :Y:

Cheers Frédo.

Southern 3175?!?! I know that locomotive!!! :hehe:

I am sure that all you seasoned veterans will find a lot of things wrong with this route. Some errors you might be disgusted with and others you might laugh at. Either way, you said it!

There's always something "wrong". You just have to accept that you won't find everything. It's all a learning process. Rail lines and the areas around them also change with time. Until Auran invents a magical route creation tool, every route you create will be YOUR interpretation, i.e., your artwork. Just make it your best and it's all good. This is all art for fun and nothing more serious. If someone wants something done differently, then they can bloody well change it themselves! :D Then it will be THEIR interpretation.

I love the automobiles, trees, textures and sunset sky you see in these recent shots. Are these stock TRS2006? Or did you download them? If they are stock, I may have to upgrade... They are sooooo much better than what I have in '04. What I remember of TRS2006 from when I installed it reminded me more of Trainz 1.0 circa 2002 than it did of TRS2004.

As for uploading, the DLS should be a safe place to upload to. The dependencies are only an issue if the items used are not on the DLS. Most folks like a nice list of what items aren't on the DLS and where they can be found. Other than that, there shouldn't be a problem. Auran automatically generates a list of creators from whom the third-party content comes from, but that is all.

For example, some of the locomotives I reskin use horn sounds from USLW downloads. These hornsounds are not on the DLS, however, many folks have already downloaded various USLW engines and so they already have these hornsounds. Auran will send me an e-mail saying that kuid:xxxx:yyyy is not on the DLS, and occasionally someone will e-mail me and ask where to get item, but that's all the trouble it usually is.

I can't wait to run a local freight and switch a few customers.

Well all I can do is give it a shot and see what happens.

As far as the trees, cars etc. I could not tell you stock or 2006 because I never seen 2006. Accept for a few rolling stock, almost everything is from the DLS. I prefer to use the JVC stuff.

I am still tweaking on it and will let it go soon. Thanks for the info.

I thought you were building in TRS2006. Oops. You must be building in TRS2009 then. I've heard that the textures looked better. Interesting.

I haven't touched it in a couple of weeks. I have been wrestling an issue with the lettering a batch of 2-8-2's, learning GMax, and working on my latest route. All I have to do is remove the remaining WM markings, tone down the hood door lines, add BB lettering, and maybe work on the pilot. Ditto for the GP40.

the latest from the BBRR.. I have it ready to upload but don't know how to put an image with it. I understand that I might need a seperate program to do this. If so, then Trainz 2009 is incomplete. Why build a route if you can't upload it and share it without a crapload of other programs. That sucks big time.
