Buckingham Branch RR

Swapping out the trucks (bogey/bogie!) involves editing the main assets config.txt file - the line starting "Bogey" and replacing the KUID of the existing truck with the KUID of the new truck and also I think changing the kuid-table entry at the bottom of the file.

I'm pretty sure thats all there is to it but it would be better if someone with more expertise than me could just confirm this.

The route is looking great by the way!

Yes that is how you do it.

Progressing slowly...

I need to add a quarry to the next part of this route. I have a large animated dragpan in one of the routes that I downloaded but can't find it in my assets. Does anyone know what it is called so I can find it.

"Big Musky" Is her name, Moving overberdon is her game.:hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

I can not find any asset named "big musky" in my content. That must not be the correct name for it. I know it is in there because it shows up on the route.

Neat! Buckingham Branch used to be a C&O branchline. It's great to see the C&O equipment on it and to see that my content is getting a workout. Man, I've gotta update that Chessie scheme! I'm pretty sure I've updated the C&O, though I may have forgotten to upload. :(

C&O used color light signals, which look and act like traffic lights, but the red and green swapped places. I just use Auran's. The Safetran Color Light signals by Justin Cornell might work well, but they are higher poly count and are hard to see. I think I downloaded them from the DLS, but they appear to be updated and on Jointed Rail, too.

Switchstands are actually coded. The targets on them are red and green for mainline trackage, and yellow and green for sidings, yards, etc. off of the main. The green always means "normal", which means "aligned for the main route through the switch". The red or yellow target means that the switch is set in "reverse", which is the diverging route (siding, spur, yard track, etc.).

For switch levers, I standardize on four basic designs.

1. Auran's "Tside_Point_Motor_QR" located in the Australia menu. I used it only on CTC-controlled track and power switches typically found on heavy-duty Class 1 mainlines. Not something you'd likely find on the BB.

2. Low switch stand L 118781:28010:0
Low switch stand R 118781:28011:0
Great for illuminated indications. Both are found in the Canada menu if you download them from the DLS.

3. YDSwitch#3 97212:61003:1
YDSwitch#3Raised 97212:61005:1
Found in the USA menu if you download them from the DLS.

4. CSX Switchstand 138423:24000
NS Switchstand2 138423:24001
NS Switchstand3 138423:24002

Neither has a yellow/green version, so I made my own for models #2 and #3 and e-mailed the authors asking permission to upload. I am still waiting their approval.

Good roller bearing truck kuids for the freight cars include:
113556:50053
113556:50056
113556:50057
113556:50058
113556:50059

All are different weathering applications to the same basic model.

Like you, I suffer from other people's lack of organization. However, I am good at organizing once I get a chance (thank you, mom). You could start up TrainzObjectz if you run TRS2004 and re-type the Region tag or the Type tag in the config file of each item you like to reorganize them. For example, you could group all stations into a region called "Stations". Or your favorite switchstands into a Type called "Switchstands". This is what I do before I upload items that I create. All my C&O items are in the company menu "Chesapeake & Ohio" because that is what the company tag says for each item. It helps me keep the full head of hair my dad never had at the age of 36... If you can't run TO, you can do this one at a time... May the Force Be With You on this one!

HTH!

Glad to help. Here's a website that may help a bit:

The Piedmont Sub is near the Buckingham Branch. The areas may be similar enough to provide some inspiration.

Here are pics of my SD40 upgrades. I'll check later to see if I've uploaded them at all.

The Buckingham Branch Railroad (BB) is a family owned short line railroad in Central Virginia. It operates a line, owned by the Bryant family, which is 17.3 miles long and runs between Dillwyn and Bremo. This line is known as the Buckingham Division. The BB leases and operates a line of railroad from Richmond to Clifton Forge (via Charlottesville) which is approximately 200 miles long. This is known as the Richmond and Alleghany Division (R&A). And the BB leases and operates the Virginia Southern Division which runs from Burkeville to Clarksville via Keysville.

Whoa. That's one of the C&O's mainlines. Dang, CSX must have been desperate for cash... then again, when have they not? :o

When you drive thru Dillwyn and see the BB there, it is hard to imagine they control over 200 miles of railroad. You can also see BB engines in Charlottesville all the time now. I will try to get some pix or video.
