British Narrow Gauge On DLS

Vern

Trainz Maverick
I'm putting together a small ng route based on the now defunct Dalmunzie Estate Railway in the southern Grampians. TS12 doesn't have any 2ft gauge rolling stock or motive power built in so I took a look at the DLS but rather dismayed to find very few representative items. There are some Hunslet steam locos which do not appear to be player driveable, a collection of generic coaches and the Mollibahn stock (wrong gauge but it would do) and no locos. I eventually found a diminutive QR sugar cane diesel loco but this has arcade physics and in cab view, draw distance was down to around 500m which kind of renders moot the concept of building a mountain railway.

I searched in vain for any Talyllyn, Ffestiniog or other UK narrow gauge steam which would be at home on such a route and allow a head out view to avoid N3V's insidious draw distance nonsense in TS12. If there's an item(s) I'm overlooking, please post a KUID but it has to be on the DLS complete with all dependencies.

Thanks for the links which I'll check out, but I specifically requested DLS items, so i can offer a one stop shop for potential end users - always assuming I can get the route on there!

A shame the authors of these items can't be convinced to put them on the DLS...

Check out "clam1952" on the DLS.

Erm...... Holds hand up

Hunslets sounds like mine, based off a model from my 009 modelling days so not really sure of the accuracy. At present don't have cabs, cabs I can do, ones that work I can't, I have been trying to resolve this on and off for a year now and am not getting very far with them, animation isn't one of my good points, haven't given up on them yet though. Took me a year to get working steam bogies. I could have done what others do and stuck a pb15 cab on but concluded for the moment that's probably worse than none! To be honest they only got released due to requests from a few people who saw them in one of my screenshots. Would have helped if I'd at least put the cab attatchement point in before uploading at least then you could add your own.
I have actually now got non working cabs on my Lyd and Mountaineer models here, I'll have another serious look at trying to get something that works in between trying to finish my route off, as I do actually prefer using a cab!

The Ffestiniog items on Trainzone, after being persuaded by kevmt I am updating for 2010 - TS12 however due to Kevins arrangement with the Ffestiniog they can't go on the DLS so they will be on Trainzone. They will be under his kuid not mine, I'm just up versioning them and sorting out engine specs for the loco's.

There will also eventually a lot of 2ft NG stuff available, track, trackside and scenary and probably some more rolling stock when I actually get the route finished, comming up to 4 years now. Most of it's appeared at some point in my screenshots thread. I do fully intend that everything I have made will be on the DLS at some point.

Thanks Malc. I'm pressing on with the route so when it's finished I'll put together a demo session with what's available and put a few links in the readme to more suitable stock (though I suspect the real Dalmunzie was probably a Simplex diesel and a flat car with a couple of park benches on it!).

Vern,

You do know that it's easy to add an existing cab to a "cabless" loco ?

For my own use, yes, but like all personal fixes to "broken" content of limited use if you want to include sessions for end users using the item without the DLS copy also being updated.

Update: Got a Feldbahn working so testing has commenced. A few wrinkles to iron out but all being well hopefully ready next week some time. It's not a huge route - around 4 miles with a fictional extension to Spital of Glenshee, but hopefully will provide a backwater for an hour or so relaxing ride up and down the hill.

OK, discovered a way around the non drivable problem if you can live without cab controls that actually do anything, revisited the scripts by Rob Pearson that did the job in 2004 / 6 which I abandoned do to a script error. Got it working OKish on Mountaineer by disabling the automatic fireman in the script, after finding a post on here by Rob, which gets rid of the script error that accompanies it, the in-game Automatic fireman works though, so nothing lost there, I think? Just need to use the keyboard or the on-screen controls. Need to make some cabs for the Hunslets, Alcos and the L&B Manning Wardles once I have got this all working properly. Next priority after getting Kevins items finished.
