Bristol Temple Mead

I have titled this more clearly, many might not know what BTM was! Apart from something rude....

So here are a few more, firstly inside the station.

Looking across from platform 9. I used an AJS roof but that always throws up the Black Screen at start for me, just have to live with that....

And from platform 8, 2 Baby Deltics haul a blood & custard train.

And again on platform 8. Notice the Brute train further along.

Over the the eastern MPD and a Baby Deltic has just got the go-ahead for the sheds, the ones distant left, not the ones ahead.

Further along we still have the right-of-way and head for the far sheds.

In another area, the HST Depot, a Teal 8-set has just go the clear that will take it on the roundabout route to the station.

You will notice I have used the UKRailSim signalling set, which is Payware. It is so good I just had to use them so if you want Bristol Temple Meads when it eventually goes on the DS then you will also need that pack.
Alternatively and if you prefer a different time period you can load without and place your own signalling then save out which should set you up. But the Black Screen at start-up will always appear due to the AJS roof not being fully installed onto the station, it was the only way I could get it to fit - without it fitting basically!

Angela I have both Snowsignals signals and Bloodnoks and I prefer Bloodnoks. For 2 reasons. Firstly Bloodnoks are on the DLS and 2nd I find them much easier to work with and set up and also more fleixble in what you can do :) If you find it dificuilt to use Bloodnoks signals I will quit happily do a demo route for you :)

Hi Louise,
I'll have a look. The UK ones set up fairly easily once I got the hang of them, so no problems, and I quite like them.
But as you say, there are alternatives so I will look tomorrow. In fact I am sure I have Bloonoks on my PC...

Bless you,

Angela

Terminating

Looking good Angela, look forward to seeing the finished product.:)

Hello,
I have the terminating portals in place on the western side, not much scenery right out there yet but rapidly approaching.
I have yet to decide on the eastern side, it was suggested the Parkway might be the bees knees but that depends on how the country lies there. I shall GE it and see....

Hello Louise,
I looked but Bloodnoks simply do not have enough options, certainly not as many as the UKRS ones, their bir theatre sigs are good for fan sidings in a modern era.
If you feel you can match them in a DS version of signalling then I am happy to take a peek at anything you send.

Thanks for your ideas.

Bless you,

Angela

Angela.

Go to your Private Messages at the top right corner and click.
Click on edit options and scroll down to "Messages and Notification". There should be a radio button "Enable Private Messaging" click and you should be good to go.

Hope it works for you.

Hello Dave,
Bless you for trying to help.
One more snag - when PMs are turned off that little bit top right isn't there!
That caught you napping - and me!!

My memory.... tch tch, it's hopeless. The place is in Cp or something but I have been looking there and haven't found it. Wish these things were easy ot find but they usually end up hidden away somehwere never to be seen again.

Thanks,

Angela

Found

No more lost property - I have found it.

I just need it so Louise can PM me and then I can return my mail address.

Hello Angelah, happy new year, I do like your BTM,!......regards

Hello Oldie,
And a very good New Year to you as well, and I hope it turns out the way you want.

The canopy is the problem, I have asked for a volunteer but none have stepped forward and the chap who did it for 2006 never replied to my mail asking if he would consider changing it for 04 as well.
The present one is an AJS but of course the ends are wrong on those. I have avoided fixing the canopy to any other platform parts because that would cause problems with this particular station. I did try an experiment but it didn't really work.
Because I have used the AJS station parts and platform splines some of them cross so it has been a bit of a nightmare placing things. Never mind, I got it about right in the end, well, both ends I think!
Still, better it this way than not at all, eh?
It is coming along now. The portals that will be the ends are in place and scenery is coming along nicely. I Google Earth snaps and work from those so it is moderately accurate apart from the fact that I haven't the exact buildings to place, but with the content I do have it looks okay.
The idea will be much the same as my Avalon, that you can stay in the station area and control incoming, reset to outgoing or change locos. There is the station MPD just up the tracks and also the HST Depot which is a fair distance away, so plenty to do.
I may put 2 different version up, one with the UKRailSim Signal Pack as signalling which is Payware and another from the DS, which would be free of course.
I hope it will be worth the wait!

Bless you,

Angela

Before you go any further with the Payware route I would check out the possibility of "copyright infringement" as regards to the signals. If you browse the "Payware" section about copyright it may give you some idea of what I mean.

Regards Dave.

Hello Dave,
Never thought about that! I certainly will go check.
I got the Bloodnok tutorial yesterday but the signals don't really fill the bill to be honest. However, if there is copyright infringement with the UKRS ones then I will not use them. A pity, they are really nice.
My idea was that if I put them on BTM it would advertise them and more people would go buy them, they would have to anyway to run the route. I always feel that if we don't use our content suppliers then we will lose them. And that would be a great shame.

Bless you for letting me know about this,

Angela

Best course

Hello Stationbeem,
I thought the best course was to ask them so I have mailed UKRailSim and put the points to them.

Even if I put it on my route and that route goes onto the DS, the content will not be available for free download, will it? I mean, anybody will still have to go buy it.
That was my idea and have told them so. I don't wish to make waves - even for me!
If I download a route I have to get all the assets needed for it and if they are not on the DS as well then I would need to go search around and if that meant paying for some then so be it.
But I am worried about the situation and that is why I made contact.
I shall let you know what comes of it.

Bless you,

Angela

No copyright is involved as you are not passing on the content only information that the route has used them Copyright only becomes a problem if you passed on the signals with the route. Nobody can use them unless they have already paid for and use them already. Anyone downloading the route will not get access to them unless they are willing to pay for them.

this is how sirgibby does his routes, he sells the assets but the route is always free, but the route is no good unless you buy the assets.

Hello Stagecoach,
I thought it might be that, but wasn't sure. As you all know I do not charge for any of my work, it is totally free on the DS.
The problem might arise if Auran happened to include the route in a disc for sale, then a copyright problem would occur.
But that is unlikely.
As you rightly say, all content has to be downloaded, that is what I have to do when downloading a route to look at, so if it isn't on the DS then I would have to go get it - good Girl Roveress! Bring the stick back.
That would mean paying for it, so copyright would be satisfied.
I have mailed UKTrainSim but they won't reply (if at all) until at least Monday I don't expect.

I wondered how people felt about a route that needs Payware signals? How would you react for instance?

The reason I used them (apart from having bought them, ha ha...) was because they are ideal for the fan sidings at 2 locations on the route, and as it is a modern era route then I assumed it would have modern era signalling.
I must say that I soon got the hang of setting them up, it just takes a bit of logic and common sense and to work from the left (I found anyway).
It cuts signal posts right down and looks better too....

If users didn't like the idea of having to buy the signalling I would have to revert to Bloodnoks, as Louise suggested in this thread, but they are not quite the same and are limited in the amount of sidings they can control, so it would mean more signals.... not a real problem I suppose if the forum members felt I should go that way.

I have downloaded the tutorial, Louise, so you don't need to send it, but thanks anyway. So I now know how they work.

Bless you all for your help,

Angela

Hello Angela, there are 2 things to consider on this issue.

1) The signal pack is currently £9.75, I would consider a lot of Trainzers wouldn't purchase it just to run your route. Obviously with the credit crunch and other factors, some may conclude that you would need to use them on lots and lots of British layouts to make them financially viable.

2) Being modern-era signals, the fact is that we don't have too many modern-era layouts to use them on at present, as there is a diverse variety of layouts on the DLS covering all eras of British Railways over the decades, that may sway the decision for many not to bother purchasing them right now. I don't have these personally, but they do look splendid signals, so it's a maybe possible purchase in the future, if only we had lots of routes to place them on, but of course, that would mean that lots of your fellow route creators would have to go out and buy them also.......
