Have tried repeatedly to create a session using an inbuilt Route which would be able to be uploaded for the community. For the first few "Save Session" instances, the session is saved to the parent Route folder. Then I get a "Save new route and session" with no option but to select it or to click on "Don't Save". Thus the link is broken between the new session and the old parent Route folder. Can anybody please tell me how to save my session continuously to the parent route folder or, please advise me how to re-establish the link between them when my session is complete and ready for upload? I am working with TS 2010. Many thanks in advance to anybody who can help.:(

This is a very important question: what build number is your version of Trainz? (shown in bottom-right corner of Launcher screen)

Shane

EDIT: If you are using TS2010, then you need to register it.

Thank you Shane, for your prompt reply and for your suggestions. In fact I hadn't registered my TS 2010 but have now done so. I have yet to check to see if that makes a difference, since my TS 2009 was registered and I've got the same problem with that. The Trainz build (for TS 2010) as shown in the bottom right corner of the launcher screen is 44088, having been patched to the latest version.
Thanks for your help, and thanks for the link to your website which I know will be valuable to me in the future.

Kind regards,

I am aware of an issue in TS2009 (SP4) where you have to be connected to the Internet to overwrite routes/sessions in Surveyor, not sure if the issue is still the same in TS2010.

Apparently that's a "known issue", sometimes it insists on saving new route and session rather than just saving the blasted session for the current route. Hard to say what triggers it, but when I set up a session I use the object tab ONLY to click on portals and industries with the question mark, never ever ever touch any other tool besides the trains tab. That seems to work most of the time.

If you really need to do something like setting a junction direction then it will insist on a new route KUID, there is a way to work around that - let it save, then go to content manager to edit the session in explorer, edit config.txt to change the two places that list the map KUID from the new map KUID to the old one.

After checking that the hacked session runs in the original route, delete the new route since you don't need it anymore.

To shaneturner12 and sniper297

Thank you both for coming to my aid. I am always connected to broadband when running Trainz so I think the problem must lie in a different area. Now I know why there are so few sessions uploaded for the community; the difficulty of producing them in the first place and then the difficulty of satisfying the conditions laid down by the administrators (of the Settle & Carlisle add-on, at any rate) for uploading them. I'll experiment with the config.txt with the kuids of the new route and session and see if I can juggle them with the old ones, as you advise, sniper297. Part of my difficulty is having less then an intermediate knowledge of computers, having been a teenager when the 4MTs and the Black 5s were running up and down my local lines in West Renfrewshire - I'm an elderly computer dummy, on these forums. I will keep you both posted if I have any success. Thank you again, both.

Kind regards,
Frank.:)
