Bounced out!

Hello - my son and I are VERY new to Trainz 2019. We've figured out downloading (we think). Apparently we are doing something very wrong in the Game. After setting up the route with the engines, etc. and starting to drive, the App bumps us out and closes. It has happened every time we've tried to drive - usually we can get to about 20 mph before the shutdown. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcomed!! Thanks.

Good Afternoon Bluedonalddouglas910
Could you please tell me if you see this crash when you use the included sessions on the builtin 'kickstarter county 2' route? Or do you only see this when using a route you have downloaded or created?

Regards

Hi!
Welcome to TS19!

Many of the sessions used with routes are unforgiving! If you exceed the speed limit (often 15mph at termini or goods yards), you'll be told that the session is terminated.
Same thing for ignoring a red signal.

On the bottom part of the screen is a profile of the track - it also shows speed limits and signals, keep an eye on it.

One last thought:- speed limitsIf you see a slower limit greater than the current one, you must reduce speed to pass the sign at the new limit (like road signs)
If you see a higher one, you must wait until all of the train has passed it! (for prototypical US consists that's ages!).

Bounced Out!

Good Morning - thank you for the replies. Yes, the App crashes when in Kickstart, but also when my son created his own route. He wants to be able to "race" and drive fast. I think we need to better understand the hierarchy of the "game," as far as sessions, route selections, etc. This is BEYOND new to me....! :o

HI,

There is a rather steep learning curve for the new user ...

Let's start at the beginning...

Routes:-
This is the layout - think of the model railway set you had as a youngster (?) Basically it's the track and some scenery and some signals and speed limits.
It can be as small as a simple oval, or something like the Canadian Rockies route very long with super scenery.

Session:-
Before you can drive a train, you have to put it somewhere on the track. That's a very basic session, but gives you the idea. Again, a Session can have lots of different trains with AI drivers, and instructions for each one.

There's also the Surveyor - "Create a Route".

That's the tool that lets you create a route...

I know it's a bit frustrating, but try the Tutorials (maybe without your son?) to get a feel of the controls (ignore the steam engine controls!).

When you feel a bit more ambitious, try the Kickstarter routes - following the instructions carefully!

When you're feeling ambitious, Create a new route - select a simple track and make a simple circle, place a loco on the track. Now save the route and default session. leave surveyor, select your route. Now try driving the loco (as fast as possible!).

You'll find that most of the routes will have speed limits (even the ECML - a UK route where the Passenger train speed limit is 125mph - out in the countryside). Exceeding a speed limit is going to vcause problems...

Alll the Best,

Colin

Speed limits are usually enforced by a rule in the session. You can edit the session once you become comfortable with that, and delete the speeding rule. However, in the long run, Trainz is for those who wish to operate in a prototypical manner, it is not an arcade game.

You may want to download some of the routes meant for HSTs (High Speed Trains) like Electro island if your son wants to go fast. They have much higher speed limits.

Bounced Out!

He just set up an oval track in a Quick Drive session (not sure if it makes a difference, but he is using downloads of the Thomas and Friends series). He has one engine on the track, released the brake, and started to accelerate. The mph max is set at 40. When he reached about 8-10 mph, he got knocked out of the app - again! He's soooo frustrated....Thank you again to everyone for the sage advice!

Try using a loco that shows as built-in. No other cars. If it still misbehaves, we can look further.

Suggestions:

*be more specific about "bounced out"

*run an extended database repair
*are you able to run the trainz tutorials
*does your system hardware and software meet the minimum game requirements
*is your display driver up to date
*does task manager show you are running only one instance of Trainz
*what build is installed
*have you chosen Maximum Compatibility in Trainz Settings
*is directx installed properly, what version
*is your hard drive almost full
*have you had any other problems with your PC (or?) *
*what is the wattage of your power supply
*what graphics card

Hi,
Just to add that a basic oval track - without any trackside add-ons has a default speed limit of 40mph...
Try adding a "BR speedboats" with a 125mph limit.

I've just created a basic loop line, added a UK steam Loco and pressed "go".

I'm feeling a bit giddy, but there have been no problems with a standard loco.

I've no idea what version of "Thomas" you're using - so I can't test all of them!

Try the following:-
Start TS19 (the launcher) and select "manage Content"
Now select Filter (1st pull-down menu) "Installed"
Click the right arrow to the left of the word "Filter" - this adds another line to the filter "Installed = true"
Now click the "+" sign on the far right to add another line
Now select "Name" in the drop down box (initial text is "Asset Kuid") and then type Thomas in the right hand box.

You've selected the Thomas loco.

Move the cursor to the line in the lower table with Thomas as name, now Right Click the mouse to bring up a menu, then select "View errors and warnings".
Most warnings are just that - a hint that something might need to be adjusted (e.g. colour, missing sound file). The errors are more serious and can cause problems.

Another possibility is that your PC is being driven hard.
Trainz will drive the CPU hard, but will push your GPU as far as it can. There's a couple of games that push the GPU hard - Trainz is (IMHO) one that drives the GPU really hard.
Check that the PC system is sufficiently cooled (I can hear the twin cooling fans on my GPU spin up as Trainz runs) - and that the power supply is OK. Using lots of power can show PSU problems - using Word/Excel won't stress as much.

As suggested, if you can post the PC specs we may have a better idea.

Colin
