Basic uk shunting signal placement

Hi there, I’m struggling to understand how I should place signals on my route. I’m using modern colour light signals and I have a siding off a bi directional line.

Below is a very basic diagram:

The top line is the bidirectional mainline, the slashes are the points and the bottom line with the colon is the siding. An engine will need to be stored in the siding, and I need to be able to signal it so that it can only pull out when it is safe. I’m assuming I need to use a position light signal (the one with the white and red lights) but I’m not entirely sure where this needs to go and which way round it needs to be. Also, on the mainline, where do my 3 aspect colour lights need to go to make them work with the siding?

Thanks!

Colour lights protect the siding entry point.

That's basic - you really need to get to grips with signalling (Google 'Railway Signalling') the following is a good starter
https://www.signalbox.org/

A siding off of a single bi-directional main line might not have any signals. It depends on what sort of protection is being used for the single line (electric train staff, RETB, ERTMS etc.).

If you are trying to signal it so that the Trainz AI will work as expected that's an entirely different matter, and you may want toi use invisible signals to avoid having to place unprototypical visible ones.
