bad news trainz

gettin bored of trainz
i was hearing that ether by 2010 and 2009,windows XP will not be sold in any store, any website, but vista will become more stable then before, which i did hear, but im not sure if TRS 2006 or classics will be able to work with it.

it doesn't seem that microsoft will do that because they would cause many other companies of computer programs to lose money, but if it is true than...:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :mop: :'( :'( :mop:

Officially most sales of Windows XP have already ceased. There's more information in the "Support Lifecycle" section here.

John

No, but eventually:

Security patches will cease to be issued.
WGA checks will cease to operate (probably with only marginal consequences such as not being able to update DirectX, etc).
Most importantly, installation and re-installation will fail when the product authentication servers are taken offline.

There's certainly no reason for any panic yet though.

bit of history:

this has NEVER stopped microsoft before. not when it went from dos 7.5 to the first windows, 3.x, which was basically just a shell front end for dos, but then to the ever so infamously flakey win95, which freequently crashed ON ITS OWN, whatever application it happend to be running or even if none. at any rate it majorlly messed up the whole rest of the software industry. (and over which there were MANY and signifigantly bitter lawsuits, also restraint of traide in the ms itself began offering applications, and of course, only its own applications would at first run on it. this is where i.e. comes from, along with numerous bizdroid packages like ms office and ms word)

it seems unlikely that microswuft has as yet developed any sort of conscounse against doing so.

the practical, sensable thing, and i hope auran is doing this, would be to make trs 2009 VISTA compliant. (and/or also port it to some free flavour of unix, and/or make jet a complete stand on its own opperating system that we can then just run all our aplications on instead of having to rely on micro-swuft or anyone else. of course auren isn't in the bussiness of writing opperating systems that i know of, and a lot of people are out there writing and updating flavours of unix/linex) otherwise there going to a whole lot of effort for what could turn out to be a very unfortunate disaster.

and the handwriting IS on the wall for xp. when they stopped sending out automatic updates, corrections and service packs for it, i think that was kind of a big obvious hint, that its only a matter of time before xp becomes orphaned entirely.

(and we are not amused by any opperating system denying us, or attempting to and telling us its denying us, access to anything on our own personal computers either, as recent and current incarnations of windows seem to have taken it upon themselves to have begun doing)

I gonna miss XP. Vista doesn't play very nice with '06. If this is true, Auran needs to make '09 for Vista, as well as XP, incase this is true.

Strange, my XP is still being automatically updated on a regular basis

Cheers David

SP3 for Windows XP was released in May 2008.

Microsoft updates for Windows XP are still being released every Patch Tuesday - there were quite a number of them this month. They will stop eventually but they definitely haven't stopped yet.

XP may not be installed in ready-built computers from July 1st 2008. (OEM license.)

XP license retail (disc) is still beeing sold - for how long, who knows?

Support for XP will extend to the year 2014. (At which time, Vista may be up to par or forgotten.)

As far as I am aware, someone said it before, that Micrsoft is creating Microsoft 9 or something along those line. They have already abandonded Vista, as people are complaining about it cause they don't want to learn how to use it. :o

Do not know if this is accurate information or not though.

Vista & TC/TRS2006

Vista isn't that bad...I held off buying a PC for 8 years. This is the first PC I ever had, and works fine with Trainz Railwayz 2006. Sometimes Trainz won't load...but after a couple tries it fires right up. Vista Opperating System is very easy to understand...but it is different
And It installed WITHOUT disabling my Antivirus or Firewall

I believe your screenshot is too large for this forum. It belongs in the screenshot forum. I'm not complaining, but someone may be along who will.

Actually none of it is accurate, The next version of Windows is called ( at the moment ) Windows 7 which started development after Vista's release. They haven't "abandoned" Vista ( as if they would ) even with all the F.U.D. being spread about it as Windows 7 is built on it. The moral of this is don't believe everything bad you hear about Vista, as the XP everyone seems to love so much was talked about in pretty much the same way when it came out but people seem to have very convenient memories about it all.

I got a new second pc for my non-Trainz, routine stuff here in the UK from a company still selling XP machines and that was just two weeks ago so reckon I was lucky with that.

So what happened to the "micro kernel" or whatever they were planning to call it?

If you mean what is called MinWin then it is still ongoing work which started before Vista. Some of that work is in Vista and more in Server 2008 and even more will be in Windows 7 apparently, though with Vista SP1 its core was updated to that of Server 2008 so that they are the same. MinWin is not meant or planned to be a product in it's own right.
