Avast Disabling

Hi all,

On the recommendations of many members of this forum I have installed Avast as my virus checker. I need to disable Avast to install a program and have not been able to discover how to do this. Can someolne please explain how to do so?

Hello Jim, right click on the rotating ball in your bottom menu bar, a pop-up will appear with several functions on it, click on the top one that says On-Access Protection Control, and then tab through each function - Instant messaging, Network shield, internet mail, etc, etc. Click on terminate and a box will appear and say Persist the Changes ? Press no to apply the changes just for now, whilst you install something. Click on each item you have running and terminate them all, then they will become greyed out. Click OK when you've finished, do whatever you want to do then go back into avast again and switch them all back on again.
Hope that makes sense, I was typing the instructions as I went through the motions......
