Hey all,

Some progress screenshots of South Geelong route in night time

Interesting thing is it's not laggy at all

and here is a shot of Queenscliff Junction pre 1901

In 1883 the signal box was placed at Wood St for the opening of South Geelong - Queenscliff line, in 1901 it was abolished and extended to South Geelong Station, Signal Box was created by Jerker up in Victrainz, I'll be placing the trees last as they cause most of the lag.

OK folks... Years ago I made a DEM route which is textured (aside from detail textures near rails) of the line between Penrith (Perhaps a station or two before, can't remember) and Lithgow. Again, probably an extra station past that. There's a huge amount of baseboards, as I wanted to capture the grand distances of the mountains.

The double track is all there and graded. No junctions or yards.

Now, these days I don't give a damn about making content. Once I get my old PC fixed (I think the power supply is borked) is anyone interested in finishing it off? I was rather hesitant some time ago as it was my 'baby', but now I really don't care. I think (from memory) it's split into two sections, Penrith to Katoomba (ish) and from there to Lithgow.

So, if I either fix my old PC or backup what's on the drives, would anyone be interested in tackling it? I also have a small bunch of custom content for the line which if I really can be bothered I can at least make passable for use, and forget about my silly perfectionism which has probably stalled it all for too long...

I wouldn't mind giving the katoomba to lithgow section.

Sure. When I get back to Newcastle where the route is, I'll just upload it all.

Don't care what folk do with it anymore.

The textures were done in Transdem using height relief; Ie, the lower the mountain the darker the texture. They were only temporary to be replaced later, but easy to replace them with decent ones. The stations are all marked at the correct height.

It's of a modern track plan. I think the Zig Zag track is there, although nothing at all as good as the ZZR that I was making some time ago.

I'll make a deal though:

If anyone does make a reasonable attempt at finishing this, I'll finally get around to quickly finishing my high quality DD-17.

But, as I mentioned, the way the textures are done really do work well regards to the height of the mountains. It's really only close to the track that needs more sophisticated texture work. From memory, it's about five baseboards from the track either side, so many mountains to be seen.

I just really couldn't give a WORD about it these days. Trainz has been replaced by vintage motorcycles! And oh my, it's been very worthwhile.

whoa! Forest, those are big packs...(not compared to the Halo maps I download but for trainz...:hehe: ) I'll give 'em a peek at later and see if I can get winrar going...

One day I was driving to Flinders and I noticed a shed connected to track (must have sprouted from the ground:p) surrounded by people

A quick look in the shed revealed K103 in steam for the first time after a overhaul

Some one directs the section that is used to tow the loco out of the shed the ease the loco out.

Fellas. These are pofig's 3D trees. Check out this thread... http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=68597 I specifically downloaded the ST3 & ST4 packs. They are hefty downloads but I think well worth it if you want to give 3D trees a go.

I cannot use the built-in speedtreez nor anything modelled off them like mcguirel's gear. My surveyor sessions become useless after planting about half a dozen of them.

I'm just curious Forest, have you tried some of Mcguirel's latest trees? The trees from Pofig are actually speedtree based (hence having 'ST' in the name :) ), however they are made using different techniques (this is normal when talking 3D artwork, everyone has different techniques :) ), and are somewhat lower detail. Mcguirek's latest trees (and her grasses :) ) are much better for performance than her earlier freeware (and series 1 payware), mainly because she has continued to improve her skills with each tree :)

Hi Steve. I thought so initially too... but you do get a massive amount of trees per pack. Also, I unzipped them with WinZip.

Admittedly, not the best if one is still on dial-up or have a low download quota to stick to.

Hi Zec. I've been put off Mcguirel's stuff, because of the way my Surveyor sessions need a restart after placing a handful of trees (same as what happens with built-ins). I know it happens to other users, and is a right, royal pain in the....... Whilst the appearance is good, in practice it's difficult to work, so certainly not a reflection of Mcguirel's creation skills.

I know we all have differing views on Payware as well. I believe using payware in a route limits the potential for user exposure to it.

Pofig's gear; looks good, can pass for Oz, is freeware (therefore anyone can check out the route), present no operational/Surveyor difficulties and do not pummel framerates. I'm happy with the lower detail, as I like emphasis on framerate performance whilst looking the part. I don't want higher detail and stutter. Another example of this is with Sirgibby's houses... I always opt for the lower poly versions.

Hello Aaron

Just making sure you saw this part of the earlier post?
Cheers

Did you know that a form of transfer vehicle is "do-able" in Trainz?

Back in 2006 I was downloading a lot of German 760mm track and rolling stock from michael-h
"michael-h"
One vehicle was able to load and carry another vehicle to move vehicles over the wrong gauge track ;)
Cheers
Rod

David... did you check out the second post?? This is where the SAR/CR narrow gauge content is detailed. I thought you were after the locos and rolling stock! :hehe:

Oh boy I hope nobody tries that in the real world the OH&S people would poo large lumps of fired clay. Not to mention the paper work explaning how a engine ran way down the line cause no way if the section car got the loco rolling would it be able to stop the thing.

Seen some one once try to do a bit of shunting with a CPH and almost spilt the thing in half .

Can anybody tell me if there is a parcel van to suit the Silver City Coment out there I have been looking for one and I can not find one in Silver for the life of me.:'( IIRC they used to run with one as a guards parcel van that matched the rest of the set.
