Another look at Moe

Converted to Broad gauge and converted the 30" to pencil42's track. Replaced switches and buffers with VR style with the narrow gauge switches and buffers provided by Narrowgauge.

I have to say that the more I work on this route the more I'm impressed with ntesdorf's work. He was remarkably clever using workarounds for all the things that had not yet been made for trainz. EG the trestles are all 36" with 30" track laid over to appear as 30" very impressive stuff.
That is my next task, replacing all the trestles.

Gee, if Moe really looked like that, even I would want to live there. (better be careful, my wife is from Moe :p)
Baz, great to see that you got TANE.
I'm now up to seven merged routes now that I have Bethungra working in TANE, at the moment I can drive from Picton to just south of Bethungra.

Graeme,

Your scenery looks sensational! I cant wait to take ST23 for a run down the South, when both the route and the XPT are complete! :)

Yes mate, there is a new XPT in the works. We aren't sure when it will be released but it will be well worth the wait. (Like all of memeboys content is)

I don't know what you're on about Graeme. I was puzzled by the trash talk so I took a stroll around Moe via Google Earth especially around where the Moe narrow gauge yard might have been.

So far as I can tell the vegetation looks more or less right. Even some of the houses look about right. Given that the route is supposedly somewhere around the late 20's or early 30's it is impossible for me to really judge without a lot of research.

My goal is to update the route to TANE without making huge changes to ntesdorf's vision of the route. Thus I've removed or replaced those more modern assets he used with things that are more in keeping with the period but I have not attempted to make too many wholesale changes to the route itself. Probably the most difficult section is the turntable/roundhouse. I have tried at least a half-dozen roundhouses and probably 10 or 12 turntables. None were a noticeable improvement. I finally decided to retain the original turntable and replace the modern roundhouse with an assortment of sheds.

Original route in TANE

My modified turntable area. Still very much a work in progress.

I have no idea if there really was a dual gauge turntable there nor what other facilities might have looked like. Now I could spend weeks researching the Moe of the 20's re-lay all the track etc. etc. but then it wouldn't really be ntesdorf's route any more.

First do no harm is more or less my motto.

Looking really good Roy, i am looking forward to you making it available.
Any assets of mine in your route will be made available to all Trainz members via one of my websites.
Regards steve

Hi Graeme, lookin real good there mate, nice one. Yes upgraded, but to be honest i'm very frustrated. It's a shame you need a $3,000 plus outfit to run it at it's best. All these terrific things it can do are great IF you have the gear to run it, but not everyone is in the financial position to be able to do that. My computer can run TS12 quite easily even with heavy scenery and yet tane stutters even with the settings at low. I'm back to TS12 for moment.

Norm, Graeme wasn't having a go at you mate, he was actually paying you a compliment. Very nice work, you've done a great job.

Cheers all,
Baz.

Hi,

I Started a 70ft duel gauge turntable years ago but lost interest in building it as there was only a couple of people interested in it at the time and I was only going to build it location specific, I can go back to the project, I've also got VR versions of the 2ft 6in tracks, they've got baked textures, Zec's Ballast texture, fish plates, sleeper plates and spike details if you want to try them out.

<KUID2:404079:38191:1> VR 60lb 2ft6in - No Embankment

<KUID2:404079:38193:2> VR 60lb 2ft6in - Rail Only

I have a photo of the turntable somewhere, when I find it I'll post how it looks, I was also in the stage of building 2 nA but lost interest.... lol

Is it ok if I swear? Holy ****, that looks (insert word here) brilliant Roy!!
This is going to be awesome when its done! :)

G'day all, @Normhart, I definitely wasn't having a go at you. Moe is a shadow of its former self these days and looks a lot better in those shots than it does now, particularly the buildings in George Street on the narrow gauge side. They look like palaces compared to what is there now.
@Roy. Great shots of Circular Quay, the route is coming along nicely, great work.
@Ghosty. Love the highway sign. Really nice shots, those RL's are really getting a workout.
@Baz, if you only have 4gb ram then upgrading that to 8 or more will make a huge difference. I have just uppped my laptop to 12gb and TANE runs smoothly on mid range settings, but it also depends on what graphics card you have. Mine is a 2gb nVidia 820m so pretty low end and only a i5 processor.
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. It helps a lot when I look at all the blank space I have yet to fill and I want this route to be both good looking and enjoyable to drive. Still have much to learn, especially about AI and trackmarks etc., but I'm getting there.
cheers
Graeme.

Thanks Steve, your support is greatly appreciated. I'm about 60% into it so far, and there is still heaps to do.

Cheers mate.

Aaron you can swear anytime you like mate.

You're exaggerating somewhat - It's not really brilliant, but thanks anyway. It's only as good as the assets I've got to work with; and as I remember it. I've been away from Sydney for 14 years, so a few things might get lost trying to bring it all together.

Aaahh! There's something about the Sydney rail network that makes you want to do these things.

Cheers,
Roy
