looking over the workshop area (located on the southern side of the yard). The sidings next to the station but outside of the workshop fenceline are the down reception sidings (wagons from down trains were shunted off here and picked up by the local shunter to be shunted into the up yard where the goods shed, loading bank, parcel siding and fuel sidings were).

Raichase,

The yard looks better and better every time i see it. Thanks for that short definition of reception sidings, too. I was just looking at a few diagrams, and trying to make sense of how they operate. That makes things a little bit clearer for me.

Patchy,

Absolutely stunning! I love the way that route looks; you have done an excellent job. You've also given me an idea for another small module.

So, it's back to surveyor for me, for a few hours at least.:D:Y:

Cheers,

Matt.

Davido, I'm not sure what that is? Is it good? Does it come with cake?

LOL ...Thought so..... in TS2010 options>video settings turn up the Anisotropy setting to 8 of 16.......you can also control it through your video driver settings but try the in-game setting first.

Cheers
Davido

Davido, you be careful! My blissful ignorance is contagious! Soon you'll want nothing more than to wile away a couple of hours in surveyor! Seriously, thanks for the help, I'll adjust that setting accordingly and hopefully we'll all see an improvement :).

mattm, thanks for the kind words. Next thing is to lump some wagons into the workshop area. Methinks there might be some grain hoppers being refurbished, and perhaps a C Class or two having work done (just because I like C Class).

Have you seen the diagram for Bathurst? That's what my yard is based off, with a couple of modifications.

Raichase,

No probs! Your work is very good, otherwise i'd be slinging insults, not compliments.:p

As for the other thing, yes, i have seen the diagram for Bathurst. I have studied that and others numerous times, trying to work out why they are set out the way the are. I still have no clue, but you did make at least something a tiny bit clearer for me.:Y:

Anyway, just spent a few hours in surveyor, spurred on by the works of people like Patchy and Raichase. I'm pretty happy with the results, and took a few shots in surveyor to share with everyone.

Kingaroy Branchline Back In The Steam Days...

Hello All,

Patchy; so rescource's for you; The Kingaroy Branchline back in the steam days; these images are from my personal collection of photograph's. Austounding effort with the line and please can you make some corrections (Armed with red pen). All images (C) Michael G

QR Theebine Station
Theebine was the Main Junction for the Kingaroy Branch from the NCL, 28 miles from Gympie. The station is in typical QR design, the forboading signal cabin controlled the branch junction & yards. This was on a Island Platform.

mattm, your effort is looking very promising. May I suggest a slightly smoother landscape? I'm not sure how the "pros" do it on their layouts, but something I've found to work really well with my latest effort is to start with a base height (lets say 10), then landscape the board before laying down track. I used to lay down track and landscape accordingly, figuring I could tailor the landscape to how I wanted the track, but it never looked quite right. Now, doing the landscape and then the track I find I am getting a more realistic looking landscape.

I like your texturing and tree placement - this is something I usually am not happy with in my own layouts. I find it hard to get the balance between a "busy" landscape and a "sparse" landscape. Looking at real landscapes doesn't work because real life has better (3D) textures! I have been drawing on ideas seen in screenshots here to improve my landscape, as well as looking at Wadalbavale to Wattle Creek in surveyor. I think I am improving, and I'll offer some more shots up when I get home from work (the advantage of night shift at a station with no trains is plenty of free time, with the disadvantage that I don't have trainz on my laptop, haha).

trainz89 - I was hoping that mine and Royane's diversion with a couple of real-world moments would be a brief foray into the world of off topic. I think it's easy to forget that this is a 'screenshot thread' not a 'real life photos thread'. Your photos are very interesting and historic, although this is not the place, perhaps?

Michael,

Clearly by patchy's efforts, he has gone to great detail in searching for the nearest possible match for each of the things you have described. Short of completely building each of them from scratch I don't think he could have done a better job at all.

If you are so concerned about absolute realism, perhaps you should learn 3DMax (or the equivalent) and contribute to these routes with your requests. I'm certain that if you made the bridge, station or water tank for him, he would happily use them.

We don't play Trainz to count blades of grass. It's a hobby, not a chore.

Indeed - or simply had a crack at the same route himself to "do better". I thought patchy's work was outstanding as well, and I look forward to seeing more.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the info. all ready had some off them, but actually I was after the yellow one with the lights on top of it.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Joe.

Goanna
the Yellow footbridge you are asking about is by Spooney.
Go into Surveyor and and in the content tab you are looking for the following type of listing.

Footbridge Stairs 4A
Footbridge Stairs 4
Footbridge Span 4 tracks (No Catenary)
Footbridge Ramp 3C

there are several variations but there is roughly the wording you are looking for.

Ronayne, search the DLS for "620 Class Railcar" and "720 Class Railcar". There are three variations (CityRail, SRA and NSWGR). When using them, they operate as a pair, the 620 (motor) and 720 (trailer). They can operate in multiple units though, so you can join two pairs together to make a 4 or 6 car train.

Thankyou!

Peversely (sp?) I am glad that 3830 didn't just upload some screenshots. As much as I love to see them, it's just too tough an act to follow :hehe: . Of course, please feel free to show me up after I've posted mine (please?)

Anyway, ARG's 2202, 42212 and 842 combine to work an empty Manildra goods service westwards through Linton, crossing the up Xplorer (I'd use an XPT, but I'd like my Xplorer to split and serve two different branch lines further on). Included in the loading are a pair of CQBY wagons with empty grain containers, as well as a number of MGFH empty flour wagons.

(Note, the last two screenshots show "new" land. I want to progressivly show screenshots with the first couple being "familiar turf" and the last couple being the latest expansion).

Raichase_20101104_0000.jpg

Approaching Linton Station, the road is set for the refuge to cross the Xplorer sitting on the main platform. The freight is somewhat later than expected owing to 42212 not pulling it's weight (so to speak). Normally the freight would wait to cross the pass.

Crossing back to the main from the refuge. Note the headshunt for the workshops behind the train - this is because the points into the workshop point away from Sydney (who designed this setup, mmh? :o ). The sidings in the foreground are the up reception sidings.

New: Although the highway doesn't follow the line, a small paved road does, popular with people chasing trains on this stretch of line. However, the police know this and are willing to set up speed traps whenever a heritage special is timetabled on the line (there is a police car, but I realised I took the screenie on the wrong side - doh!)

New: Crossing a farm crossing outside of town.

Raichase,

Thanks for the compliments, as well as the criticism. It is that above all that i am fishing for when i post here, as i know that i still have a way to go before i can consider myself even a 'semi-pro':o, so any criticisms are taken in good nature, as they should be.

I'm not too sure that i understand what you mean by your first point (slow-of-brain that i am), and to me, the landscape looks alright. You, however, disagree, and i am fine with that; i want to know where i can improve!

So, in the interests of self-improvement, and so as not to drag this thread to far off-topic, perhaps you could PM me? Maybe explain in slightly more detail what your method entails, so i could give it a try myself, and see if the results look better than my current offerings?

Cheers,

Matt.

Someone has very graciously forwarded an annonymous voucher for 20% off a lifetime first class ticket! I don't know who has sent this along, but allow me to offer my heartfelt thanks! I can't accept the voucher though, as I already have a lifetime first class ticket, so I'll have to respecfully decline it. I hope that whoever sent it along can send it along to someone else who can use it. Thanks again!

Thanks for the kind words guys - Davido, I'm certainly noticing an improvement now, everything seems crisper. BTW, my setting was on "1" before I changed it... oops.

I found my police car waiting for speeding railfans, although perhaps he should have checked the speed of the Xplorer (I kept going overspeed everytime I moved trackside... :hehe: )

Raichase_20101104_0007.jpg

If anyone knows of more police cars, or perhaps police people (persons?) to place near the car, I would be very pleased to see them!

mattm, I assure you, my comments were not meant to be "critical" of you at all - the landscape looks good! My comment was that some of the edges seemed a bit "sharp" - your river bank, for example, seems like a bit of a drop into the water. What I was suggesting was perhaps a more gentle grade down to the water, as I imagine over many years of the river level rising and falling, the edges would have become eroded and quite smooth.

It's hard to explain in words what I'm getting at, tomorrow morning after work, I'll have to open Trainz again and have a look. I'm just getting ready for work now, sign on at 2200.

Raichase,

No need to immerse yourself in surveyor at my expense. (I'm sure you can find enough motivation without me helping you along.:p) I understand what you are getting at now; looking at the river bank, it does seem just a tad sharp, doesn't it?
That it is not perfect is to be expected, though, as it was a quick 2-3 hours spent in surveyor, after viewing Patchy's excellent screenies.

Anyhow, thanks for the clarification; and i'm back to surveyor to amend it right now!

Cheers,

Matt.
