Today I tried to download from DLS. At top I have message that I have 100 MB free limit for downloading, one row below is message Completely downloaded 0.00 MB. When I try to download by pushing START button, at status line I have red ribbon with message that I completed download limit for today. My last visit DLS I finished 8. june 2009 at 23:50 hrs.
I don`t know how it works in Australia, but in Europe is one day 24 hrs, so I thing that is a very stupid joke from Auran administrators (or someone else ?) who try to push me for buying the 1st class ticket ?
At least I must say that my opinion with your company is generally bad, I spent some money for unfinished products (TS 2006, TC, TS 2009) and sometime I feel myself as some stupid betatester which pays to you for those jokes.
Don`t be surprised I am upset but in my bussiness I cannot do things like you. Be sure that money I spent here are the last ones and don`t be surprise for piracy - products like those are very expensive even for free.
Sorry for my simple English.

Have you registered a serial number yet?

Those are rather strong words there too.
Auran does their best, and this is just a simple problem too.
There is also a DLS/FCT area of this forum where you may get faster answers, depends on who is viewing really.:)

I have three registrations (the first one is ~ one year old)

Registered Serial Numbers

Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006:
  • ATR6-XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Trainz Classics 1 & 2:
  • ATCB-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition (on DVD):
  • ATS9-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
  • BETA-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
----------------------
Maybe my words are strong - but when you create some content and you cannot use it in any new version (texture problems with models from 2004 (2006) in TC and 2009) - and the answer is that you must understand it because of new version ... I am not sure about "the best" you wrote. Even Microsoft makes conversion pack for older documents. I believe that people which use the built-in content could be satisfied but in my country I want use our locomotives etc... I spent A LOT of time for repairing the config files from 2004 to 2006 and it was really the relative simple problem.
For example - in track Bad Schandau / Decin in 2009 edition there are lot of "ghost" (white) objects - buildings with no texture at all. Is it normal ?

If you try to download something with more than 100 Mbs of dependencies then nothing will download as you do not have sufficient to download everything.

Technically it is possible to download the entire DLS for free and I know one person who has done this for most of it, but you have to understand the system.

Clear the queues including the download cart, first try to download via FTP, web page, download station, download page not download helper. download ftp and the .cdp should come down. Download the dependencies first before the layouts.

A comment on Trainz, Auran build the game engine, its mostly end users who build the content. It is the content for the most part that has the errors in it. TRS2009 has better error checking.

Train Simulators are a business, Microsoft took a business decision not to continue with MSTS2, possibly because of software piracy. Everything has its price, and TRS2009 download at $29.99 isn't expensive compared to many software titles. Ever thought what a trip to the model shop would cost? A lot more than a First Class ticket.

He doesn't have an FCT, what he's saying is, is Auran using the 100mb limit to try and push him into buying an FCT.

Are you downloading a route? Many routes are over 100MB when the dependencies are included. If it's part of a pack you might try to download most of the individual assets before downloading the route itself.

'software piracy' -- this is like 'terrorist' or 'global warming' -- ways to deflect the argument. and, do you really think that whomever is pirating 'trainz' in any form would have actually ever paid for the program?? it's not that kind of game, like 'crysis' or some other retardo first person shooter, where you have to have it because everyone else has it. you see it as a torrent possibility, when you google 'trainz', but you don't know if the downloaders actually ever use the game -- or, if they do, whether they buy first-class tickets or not, or are actually motivated to actually buy the game because of all the problems with running pirated programs.

it seems to me that the problem is that we're enthousiasts for trains and the product has always been marketed towards the same market as Lionel and Marklin, and that's just not how it works in the real world. it'd be like computer Flight-Sims being marketed in competition with quarter-scale radio controlled planes. it's just not what happens.

this man is asking why the system seems to not favor the consumer. he's not asking why auran can't convince him that they're a great company.

I'm a little lost by your argument but if the original poster has a registered copy to download from the DLS then he is not a pirate.

Has he tried contacting the help desk.

If your trying to use the Download Helper with 09 forget it. Open CMP2, then open the DLS and when you see something you want to download click on the "Download (helper)", at least I think that's the one, and CMP2 will take care of the rest.

I am having problems even with a first class ticket, I have tried downloading various routes, which are listed as TRS2009 versions, so cant have been up there that long, only to find half of the stuff is missing off the download station, and what does download is downloading at total snail speeds, 1.25bps !!! I thought buying a first class ticket was supposed to be exactly that, first class access. Its seeming like a waste of money to be honest.

Hey All

I am sure the Trainzer who has started this thread would like to have some helpful and constructive posts. He has said that englisch is not his first language so try to be patient please.

Cheers

Have you activated it? Profile, tickets, and have a look.

Layouts are built by content creators who may or may not choose to limit themselves to the content on the DLS.

Somewhere there is a thread listing only routes that have all their assets on the DLS. Perhaps some one can drop in the link.

hey, mine's working fine. a lot of the things i try to update are third party or things from 2004 or earlier and don't seem to be there anymore. that's just normal obsolescence i think.

the speed thing -- perhaps it's this: when you DLoad a small item the speed never gets up to full speed -- if it only takes a second, then a second's worth of acceleration's all you'll see. if it's a big bridge or something though, i'm getting my full bandwidth of 5-7 MBs. i'm really happy with the first class ticket and the download station, and i think i've DL'd most everything i, well, could. but, that's not auran's fault i think, that some things are just not there.

This is the sort of reaction Auran should expect in this day and age. Their standards have slipped alarmingly over the years.
