Audio problems

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with audio pausing and skipping in my custom route. I have been building the route over the last year or so and last week all of a sudden the route began to have sound problems in driver following construction in surveyor. I deleted all the new objects I placed in the previous surveyor session, but the problem did not fix itself. This problem is isolated to my route - I have checked and my route does not contain any faulty assets. Here is a video of the sound problems (only occurs in driver mode) http://youtu.be/qtrcPpvAC9o

If anyone knows what could be causing such a problem, help would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno what causes it, but I know what fixed it for me. I changed the sound hardware acceleration slider to 3 (out of 4) and the sounds smoothed out.

WinXP here in case it matters...

Hi Edmund,

There are a lot of things that can cause audio skipping, among them is a lot of hard disk access, background processes interrupting the program such as malware, antivirus scans, and even Windows updates.

Is your hard drive really busy? That can cause audio to skip as well since the system is busy accessing the hard disk as it's loading content in. Sometimes a good drive clean-up and defrag does wonders. Remember this is only good for regular hard drives and not an SSD.

Turn off any unnecessary background processes or programs such as file downloaders, Skype which is notorious for poor system performance, and one of the other worst culprits is Windows Indexing and Windows Search.

Check that your antivirus program isn't set to scan every file that is opened. This too can cause other performance issues as well as audio problems as the simulator struggles to playback your session in driver.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions - I will give them a go :) , My hard-drive isn't overly busy at all surprisingly. Could the sound hardware settings affect just 1 route in my game, all the other routes work fine? Could this be an object placed in my route?

If this only affects one route, then I doubt it's hardware or other background things happening. Did you by chance add any other sounds besides the ones built into industries? I have a couple on my route that cause pauses, among them wave sounds when near the beach. When that particular sound plays, the system pauses for a second or two. I keep thinking to remove them, but I forget to until the next time it happens!
