Train-a-Mania
...in the last three years, we've looked at a variety of Microsoft Train Simulator add-ons "At The Railyard". Now, the time has come to look at another simulator and the content built for it - Trainz Railroad Simulator.

We've seen how New Jersey looks in MSTS as part of the PRR Eastern Region, but does the garden state also bloom in TRS? We'll find out in this review...at the railyard.

Nick, lgbguy from train-sim. Great start on trainz reviews. I was worried it would be bad. Hope you have a good time.

Absolutely enjoyed the review. Actually I've been hoping someone would take the review style like yours and apply it to Trainz. There are so many routes now that it's hard to pick out the better ones.

A very beautiful first review and I'm quite excited to see what Trainz or MSTS, or maybe even a Railworks 3, route you'll do next. :D

Hehe, I'd like to see someone try to review my 'Perseverance' route :hehe: I'd give it a caption, "Lag-Tacular!" :hehe:

Intresting to see how trainz compares with MSTS via review and I must say I'm quite pleased with the response :D

Cheers
Stevo

"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new" Anton Ego's voice performed by Peter O'Toole in the movie Ratatouille.

This reviewer found the reviewer's review to be very well done, honest, entertaining and concise. The reviewer obviously has a talent for video, and is knowledgeable and practiced with his tools. Transitions are fluid, and not the least bit jarring to the viewer. The subject matter is presented respectfully, almost lovingly, and always shown in a complimentary light. Certainly any route will inevitably contain small errors or visual quirks that many are eager to expose as proof of shoddy workmanship, but this reviewer never took the bait and instead simply stated any criticisms of the route as matter of fact. George Fisher, the route's creator, is an 'old hand' with a great talent for building routes and surely deserves the credit for what he has wrought.

My accolades for this review are many. Well chosen music that fits the mood of the visuals, visuals that are pleasant, interesting, well composed and fluid, talented use of the video editing software, and a fair review that intends to educate, not denigrate are all to be lauded. My one criticism concerns the timbre of the review's voice. Surely these reviews beg for a voice talent on par with Mike Rowe, Morgan Freeman, or James Earl Jones. Though the reviewer presents his thoughts with a pleasant cadence, a knowledgeable air, and a friendly disposition, the weight of his words seems to disperse when propelled by his slightly nasally, almost reluctant vocal efforts. I couldn't help but imagine some youngster in his parent's basement pretending to host his own video review program. More's the pity, because as I said, every other aspect of this review was pleasant, fair and well done.

As a result, I award the reviewer a 90% mark on my 'Critique the Critic' scale, and would look forward to more of his work, sans the above weakness.

It's a little difficult to adopt a booming baritone if that is not what you are born with! Are you suggesting voice coaching??!!!!:)

I'm not suggesting anything, it's not my role to make a suggestion when critiquing a critic. Certainly the reviewer will decide if my review is accurate, important, or has any bearing on his work. If he aspires to greatness in the video review field, he will make a decision appropriate for him. There are options available.

I am sure he will come to his view over your otherwise positive review but as you raised the issue perhaps you could help him by identifying the options he should be considering.
