The only ones I currently delete are the ones which cause the most grief, i.e. the ones which make Trainz go into fatal error, or other type of game crash.
I’m fairly thorough regarding the trial of new assets because I generally only downloaded one or two at a time, so can easily identify and eliminate the odd rare rogue asset.
However, the list grows (current assets: 11,911) and I just know that amongst that lot there are creations which I don’t like and will never use. I usually identify them whilst Route building and, if on a roll, don’t stop to clear them out at the time because it’s a distraction. What I
should do
(makes another mental note!) is to jot down the offending item in my Trainz notebook and kill them off every so often.
The other category of hoarded assets are those which I downloaded because they looked good, used them on a Route, but can’t find them again because I’ve forgotten the asset name. If I’m desperate I’ll save the current route, load up the old route where I think it was used, hope my visual memory is working and sometimes find it.
The main reason that I’ve been unable to find those little gems is because they either have a foreign name, (which I could have edited but didn’t), or they were badly classified in the first place (which I also could have amended!)
Some examples of the latter category are:
.Items where the first word of the description is an adjective. If I want a “rusty barrel” I expect to find it under “Barrel, rusty”. For me it is the item, rather than its condition, which is the key search word for me.”Rusty” could find any item of metallic hardware, or even a pet animal or human figure.
.
Assets which start with a standard prefix of a few letters can confuse. It is often the author’s initials or website acronym. However, it generally won’t throw up what you’re looking for, so unless you know the prefix, the asset remains hidden! (There are exceptions to this, e.g. JVC and FMA where a search under those letters neatly provides a summary, but this works because they are renowned specialist items, not a random selection of totally diverse assets).
The fact is, I could change the names of any of the items to whatever I want if I had the inclination.
It’s all down to my laziness at the end of the day!
