ASB Control question.

Hi folks, I'm sorry for yet another ASB question but can anyone help me keep what hair I have left.

My layout basically has the following

Slow Line ------------TM_A-----SIG-1----------------------------------Platform----TM_B-------
X

Fast Line --------------------SIG-2 ----------------------------------------------->>>Fast Out

I would like to make any train at TM_A, wait if a train is coming in on the Fast Line to either TM_B or Fast Out
The train at TM_A must ONLY leave using Fast Out.

The problem I am having is that the fast line is the only one I want to have control. If there is a fast running train coming through, the points at the X-over will be set correctly and will stop the train at TM_A anyway. It's the trains going from the Fast Line to TM_B that need to use the ASB crossover control, but I cant for the life of me get it to work.

Is there a minimum amout of triggers or signals I need to use? I have placed main triggers at what would be "Fast Line" and between SIG-2 and the X-over. I have no triggers for the cross line, but have SIG-1 and SIG-2 set in the controller.

If interested, this is the ECML route in TS10 at the northern end of York station.

I hope I've made sense.

Many thanks.

EDIT: The crossover isnt placing properly above. It actually sits after SIG-1 and SIG-2. It's being formatted as I post. :(

Hi DD,

I think you may be expecting too much of ASB Crossover here. The system was designed to just give clearance to trains approaching an isolated diamond crossing. If you start adding points which will be switched by Trainz AI, it can get unpredictable.

ASB Crossover puts all its assigned signals to red. When a train approaches and hits a Crossover Trigger it will turn the associated signal green, (so long as the diamond crossing or 'crossover' is free of trains on the other route). If you haven't put any Triggers on the 'cross' line then that line will never become green.

ASB's only work in the situation they have been designed for, (although some people do try and push them further). Crossover is quite a simple one which does not switch points. The set-up above would really need a specific design for that layout. I think your best bet is just good old fashioned Trainz AI.

(For reference, my payware ASB, 'ASB Turnout' does control points but even that is not designed for the above layout)

Hi

If I understand your diagram correctly you are wanting to stop two trains passing through one another on the crossing? If that is the case then have a look at the "jsTRF-Path Control" rule by brummfondel and the associated "Autodrive" and "PathControl setpath" driver commands. For situations that I think you are describing it is possible to make the paths through a scissors crossing mutually exclusive. Whether you can prioritise one path over the other I'm not sure but I would think that it may be possible to do this by timing the trains accurately. Descriptions of these and other rules and commands are available here http://www.js-home.org/trainz/index.php

Thanks guys. I'm sorry I didn't reply. I'd completely forgotten I'd posted the question . I didn't bother with the scenario in the end.

I'm glad "Boat" has answered actually.

I have your ASB controller setup at the Newark Crossover on the ECML (TS10). It used to work, but I noticed today it no longer operates as it was intended.
I have it set fior basic 2 way running with 2 triggers for the mainline and two for the cross line.
There is a mainline trigger placed just after the platform at newark. This is so the crossing isn't activated until departing trains actually leave. The southbound trigger is set aproximately half a mile north of the station. This allows fast non stop trains to trgger the controller in time.

The east trigger is placed between the mainline and the points. This is so the slow line entering via the turnout doesn't affect the crossing. The fourth is placed on the first bridge after "Newark Castle".

The signals are named NWK XN, NWK XS, NWK XE, and NWK XW and are placed correctly in the controller properties. All channels are the same also.

I did try the SEN City signals, but they wouldn't change from a stop aspect so I returned back to the build in 3 aspect ones.

Any help would be appreciated, however I have noticed that the AI is now ignoring the track direction markers so it could be a problem deeper within the game.

Many thanks.

Hi DD,

The Newark crossing is exactly what ASB Crossover was designed for so it should work.

If you are getting other problems (with direction markers?) maybe re-laying everything could be an option.

When you say 'now' doesn't work, would that be after you did anything to it? Service Pack upgrade for example?

Hi Boat, thanks for replying.

I am still running the original ECML as it came with TS10. I have done so much in the way of editing, repairing and scheduling, I am reluctant to update or indeed start using my copy of TS 12. I will fiqure out a way eventually to transfer stuff across but until then its just the basic buit in map.

I'm going to try removing all the ASB objects from the route, and then delete them in CMP. I'll then re-download them and re-do the crossing.

Does it affect the operation if I have other signals after the ASB controlled signal?

I'll give my plan a go now and report back.

Thanks.

The ASB Controlled signal should be the last signal, just before the crossover. Any signals after that signal should be beyond the crossover junction and final Trigger.

Thanks ever so much Boat. I placed them as suggested and still had no joy. This was with the standard built in three and four aspect signals.

I then changed just those four to the Sen City assets and hey presto. I have no idea why the built in ones no longer work but hey ho, I'm pleased lol.

Just to add, the original questio was solved by removing the crossover itself and re arranging the track to the following.

S---\------/-----Plat
F----\----/------Fast Out

This allows the slow line to be at danger if the switch on the fast line is held. A pain in the butt on a curve like York, but a solution should I wish to re-introduce services that use that section.

Thanks again.

Ahhhh.... Yes, not all signals will work with my ASBs. Some, like Bloodnok's excellent series have their own script which overwrites what my ASB is telling them to do.

That's why I made the Sen City series.
