Article: Trainz Simulator 2 for Mac now available!

darn it! Just as I buy the first trainz mac! I have to say, this really would have edged me to buy it had the S&C DLC been available too...

Can somebody help please.
I am not a mad enthusiast thus a bit thick when working out side of the box so to speak!
I have just installed the MAC 2 version but I want to know if I can import / transfer what I have built and downloaded within the MAC 1 version?

Could somebody advise me 1) if it can be done and 2) how?

Many thanks...

:0)

Why haven't you fixed the deciduous trees? They are STILL just bare branches, no foliage at all. I mean, come on guys! And what happened to all the Canadian content? Just when I thought there would be a bunch of new Canadian items, there are actually FEWER Canadian items in Trainz MAC 2. What is up with that? Also, there are WAY fewer routes in TSM2. And, it seems like you have to actually PURCHASE

Don't know what happened there, my comment just spontaneously posted itself. As I was saying, it seems like you actually have to PURCHASE driver sessions in order to run trains. Utterly ridiculous and TOTALLY unfair. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. Overall, not much of improvement from TSM1 and a few steps backward from TSM1 in many areas.

No, that's certainly not the case. You have the option to purchase additional routes, but those are above and beyond the routes included with the game that you've already purchased.

Would really like to play this sim, keeps crashing just after start up, emailed producer but no response, is there a patch?

I guess I should have put more information, hope this helps.

Status: user of TS2Mac with all in app pay ware purchase. I am a railfan, we call it in Germany „Pufferküsser“, a man who kisses the buffers. To be honest: I replaced my mac mini for a high-end imac to be able to use a good train simulator with no limitations. I supported Trainz new era over kickstarter (senior engineer mac) and I want to operate it fluently on my device. Trainz Simulator 2 is operating fluantly in full screen mode on highend imac with some minor problems with all the video settings maximised.
ok, lets not beat around the bush, TS2 for OSX is the best (if not the only with exception of "Trainz for Mac") railroad simulator for mac on the market. But it is expensive and faulty. The very highlights are the pay-ware: Murchison and the Classic Cabon City routes, the schnabel-cars for hostlers, but you have no documentation like on the PC for this routes or other content. The best locomotives (steam and diesel) are pay ware (in app purchases), ok, there is a new in app highlight: the „N&W Y6B“ that can compete with the „UP Big Boy“. The only engine with an state of the art cab (the EMD SD70MAC) is an in app purchase. And to top it, for every repaint you pay the full price. Non of the in app purchases has a documentation. To be honest: To work with this Simulator in its fully extent you have to pay many bucks…
You have another problem: If you wish to support payware users with sessions via the DLS, you can’t do it, because every upload of a session generates a crosscheck with the content of the download station (DLS) and sure: The pay ware is not downloadable there.
You can not transfer any of the old content of Trainz for mac to this version without any complicated walk around. If you take the walk around, ending a driver or a surveyor session will cause a crash of the simulator.
Some of the built in sessions are faulty. There is missing content like the „Cass Railroad Shay #5“ in the „IntenCity TS12“-Route. The described download links are not operational. If you download it after a long search in forums.auran.com via yukonzoom3dcreations.yolasite… the in cab views are faulty, the cab ist twisted 90 degrees. You are not able to start your consist in some sessions (Russian Railway).
Ok: I started with Train Simulator of Microsoft. Since they broke this simulator (not developing it further) I had to switch. One of my favourite routes was "Marias Pass" (not to mention "Kicking horse pass" in Canada). The only version of "Marias Pass" in TS2 for Mac is "Rocky Mountains Montana Track" whitch I recommend highly. But it doesn't work with basic TS2MAC. After I purchased Murchison, the rails were visible. Why???
There are many things left to do. No 5 stars out of 5. I supported Trainz new era, but it would be a horror, if I would not be able to transfer my (bought) content to this version.
I post my opinion here and not on the mac app-store because I hope, that only Trainz insiders will read it. I wish Trainz for Mac a great future!!!
PS @ Guillams Yves: Your "Rocky Mountains Montana Track" is a true highlight for TS2MAC but the rails do only show with the "Murchison"-payware installed. I built a session to demonstrate, why the "GM-Aerotrain" sucks (see wikipedia article "aerotrain") and was only built 3 times by GM. The aerotrain nearly stalls at your track. This session is not uploadable because of the use of payware content.

Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply, I guess what it comes down to is the the developers need to do more work and issue a patch, current version is unreliable and way to buggie.

Ok, let’s give it a score. Hope, that helps you, guys.
***** Fun to play
**** Reliability
The best built in routes will work with no problems. The first bugs were fixed with the first update. In app purchased content is not every time available (problem with the copy protection mechanism). Be warned: Under no circumstances run [developer] [rebuild database] when the pay ware content is not reachable. This may corrupt the database. Content of the „old“ Trainz for Mac is problematic to transfer and run reliable on TS2Mac, this counts for the routes, not necessary for the rolling stock, if it is programmed faultless.
*** Bugs
There are minor or major bugs in many sceneries.
*** Content Management
Very complicated…

**** Front ends:
LEARN TO DRIVE
Equal to Trainz for Mac (abbr. T4Mac)
SELECT ROUTE and session selection
Advantage over T4Mac. Automatic thumbnails for „parked“ sessions.
MULTIPLAYER
Never tried. For this I use to much downloaded and payware content and modified sceneries and sessions.
RAILYARD
Big advantage: Choosable camera, in cab cam, driving option
Disadvantage: missing criteria for the content like country…
GET NEW CONTENT
Big advantage in relation to T4Mac.

Routes:
Built in:
Balezino - Mosti
No intense testing. Good graphics. Sceneries not working properly.
Banks Heath
Not yet tested
Debrecen - Nyiregyhaza
Grafic not so complex. Very good in sceneries with scheduled consists and when using a schedule.
ECML Kings Cross - Newcastle
Far better drivable then the sceneries in T4Mac. The new Version of the HST 125 sucks, it has only 5 power stages. There is misplaced consist in the route like tunnel portals in the wrong height and plants growing into the tunnel.
IntenCity TS12:
Missing content as discussed. If you load the content from the internet it playable faulty.
Mojave Subdivision
A highlight for freight transport! One of my favorite routes.
Municipal Transit Railroad
Nice to have and good graphics.
NEC Wilmington - Philadelphia
Forget it! It is far to short for a high speed route. Honk your horn, ring your bell, push the throttle and be at the end of the line!
Norfolk & Western
Route tested today with two EMD SD70MACs. It's long, it's demanding for the driver. It's graphically good. But I only say: N&W Y6. I tested this legendary engine in the Mojave sub. Legendary!
Southern China
Long distances a low speed. But not bad. The Chinese build very good content and awesome cabs (with fake functions)
Springfield
The tutorial route. Good for this task!

Payware:
Classic Cabon City
Wow, a must have for all fans of tramways, but not documented.
Murchison
An absolute must have and worth every dime. What a landscape!!! Some freeware scenery needs Murchison for landscapes and rails to be complete. Big thanks to New Zealand (I guess)!

Schnabel Car(s)
Wow - the best fright car and so many details! A must have.
GM Aerotrain
An absolute fancy train and worthless. To small engine, only one direction (no push-pull). Try to turn this semi rigid coupled consist. Try it out in Trainz and you will know, why GM could never sell it.
SD70Mac
If you want to transport long fright consists in a modern environment, take my advice: Do yourself the favor to purchase this engine…

Another hint:
The "NSWGR 60 class" Breyer-Garratt lokomotive (Murchison Route) is not drivable in real cab mode. If you want to ride a mighty Garratt lokomotive in real mode, download from the DLS the "SAR 406s". It is drivable and a very good alternative for the 60 class. Love Breyer-Garratts and love articulated steam locomotives!

Enough for today…

This product isn't very impressive! It cost me £24. The 6Gb download expanded to 28Gb on disk. After using it for about two weeks, it started crashing. It also freezes my whole computer (a Macbook Air) which started giving the message that the startup disk was full; then everything else started crashing (firefox etc ...). I end up having to reboot the computer to get things going again, which only works on safe boot. Now Youtube and iPlayer don't work. I still have something like 70Gb of space on disk, but the machine acts like it has a full disk. The product now always crashes when I try to start it.

What can I do?

Sorry: Nothing. TS2Mac is not usable on MacBook Air. N3V Games should publish the specs for the processor and the GPU. I myself enjoy the sim, but it has its price...

Trainz and OS 10.9 (Mavericks)

The new version with support for 10.7 is now available from the Mac Store. We have also released Cabon City and Murchison 2 DLC packs and Settle & Carlisle is still getting some final difficult-to-repro-bugs sorted out.
It works on OS 10.9 as well. I had to download twice because on the first attempt the packet was corrupted - no wonder, it had to go around half the Globe. A pity that the old contents that came with the original version are not available. Not even when you re-download it, as I had to find out with the Northbay County. Both the 2' and the 3' tracks are faulty. And who wants to ride the trains on dashed lines?
On the other hand, the new Northbay route that is available on the DLS works fine. A lot more terrain, and all the tracks are 2'6".
Now let's see what Boyem comes up with (referring to collecting the old contents).

I would like to know where the rubbish you might find at the end of my posts comes from. I am fighting it since I got my MacMini (I have to correct the person who says TS2Mac doesn't work on MacMinis; it does) and posting in a forum is the only problem area right now.

Over a month and still no response from N3V over why TS:Mac performs better on the same route with the graphics settings.

I will not be buying T:ANE.
